You pass several mountain lakes, such as Hennesee, Möhne-Talsperre and Sorpersee, these are perfect places to stop for a snack and a drink. It can be busy during the weekends and high season.

RouteXpert Review
About a three hour drive from Utrecht (via the highway) is one of the most beautiful areas to tour in Germany, the Sauerland. The Sauerland has a very varied landscape that for the most part consists of low mountain ranges with peaks of up to 840 meters and deep valleys between them. Because of this there are many beautiful routes to drive. The asphalt is generally of very good quality.
There are vast forests, grassy meadows, crystal clear streams and inviting reservoirs. There are five large reservoirs in the Sauerland; the Sorpesee, Hennesee, Biggesee, Diemelsee and the Möhnesee. Besides this beautiful nature there is also a lot to do in the cultural area in the picturesque villages, the bustling towns, the majestic castles and mysterious ruins.
This route runs on beautiful roads with the necessary bends, long turners and sharp hairpin bends. You pass a number of mountain lakes and dams. These are nice places to stop for a photo.
You can visit the Warsteiner Beer Brewery (RP12)
The town of Soest (RP17) has a beautiful old center with several restaurants and terraces so ideal as a lunch stop.
I appreciate this route is worth 5 stars.
