RouteXpert Review
About three hours from Utrecht (via the highway) is one of the most beautiful areas to tour in Germany, the Sauerland. The Sauerland has a very varied landscape that for the most part consists of low mountains with peaks of over 840 meters and deep valleys in between. Because of this there are many beautiful routes to drive. The asphalt is generally of very good quality.
There are vast forests, grassy meadows, crystal clear streams rivers and inviting reservoirs. There are five large reservoirs in the Sauerland; the Sorpesee, Hennesee, Biggesee, Diemelsee and Möhnesee. In addition to this beautiful nature, there is also a lot to experience in the cultural field in the picturesque villages, the bustling towns, the majestic castles and mysterious ruins.
This route runs on beautiful roads with the necessary bends, long turns and sharp hairpin bends. You pass among others the mountain lake Biggesee, bridges and the Listertalsperre, these are perfect places to stop for a moment to stretch your legs and to take a photo, they are marked with a Route point;
RP3 Biggeblick Skywalk viewpoint; At an altitude of 90 meters you can enjoy the breathtaking view of Lake Bigges and its surroundings.
RP5 Listertalsperre; The Listertalsperre is 4500 meters long and up to 400 meters wide and the power plant generates approximately 4.6 million kWh of electricity annually using a Kaplan turbine.
RP19 Winterberg, also called the roof of Sauerland and is known for its fantastic skiing. This beautiful town is the highest in Sauerland. Except in the winter it is certainly worth the effort in the summer, with the cozy terraces, restaurants, many activities, sights and a breathtaking environment you can get away from it all!
RP27 Oberkirchen, a beautiful village on the Lenne River, is characterized by its Half-timbered architecture.
You will pass several villages and towns where you can also stop for a drink, eat or to walk and to view the beautiful houses, fortresses and castles. Keep in mind that many restaurants are closed between 14:00 and 17:00. So plan your stops well. The food is of good quality and not expensive.
I rate this route with 4 stars, because of the beautiful roads, nature and sights along the way.
RP3 Biggenblick
RP5 Listertalsperre
