RouteXpert Review
This route starts by leaving La Rochelle and going over the Pont De Ré and onto the Île de Ré. There is a small charge of 3 euros for motorcycles. After a quick tour of the island the route heads through the Parc Naturel Régional du Marais Poitevin. There is a covered walkway to a bird hide deep in the marshes at route point (RP) 8 with plenty of parking. After leaving the marshes the route stops at the medieval town of Talmont Saint Hilaire RP 11, here you can stop for a coffee or have some lunch or admire the impressive remains of the Talmont castle once the fortress of Richard the Lion Heart, King Richard 1 of England. From here we head through the town of Les Sables-d'Olonne where many ocean yacht races starts from. We cross the causeway in amongst the salt production pools at Ile d’Olonne RP 16 and pass right through the middle of more salt production at RP 22, Marais Breton. Next comes a little coffee stop on the quayside at Pornic RP 25 this is a very nice place to stop with plenty of parking and good choice of cafes. We head north now to cross the Loire river at RP 27 over the impressive Pont de Saint-Nazaire and head towards our budget hotel in Saint Nazaire. https://www.campanile.com/en/hotels/campanile-saint-nazaire-trignac Bird hide RP 8
