Route Summary
Day 6 of an 8 day tour on the Greek island of Crete. Motorcycling in Crete is a real pleasure, this island has many beautiful winding roads with thousands of bends, idyllic villages, beautiful views of the sea, bays, beautiful passes and ravines.
The locals are very hospitable. The roads are decent, but it is recommended to rent an All- or Off Road motorcycle, as there are also many bad roads with potholes and unpaved areas.
On the very tourist island there are many hotels, especially along the coast, there are also B&B and a number of campsites. In this tour we will assume camping accommodation.
The routes can be driven by motorcycle, car or quads and there are several rental companies in Crete where you can rent All Road, Custom, Quads, Buggies, scooters and cars. Prices for the rental of a motorcycle for a week are between 280 and 900 euros, depending on the model.
Renting from Eurodriver has the advantage that they can deliver your motorcycle anywhere so you can already get on your motorcycle at the airport and start the journey.

RouteXpert Review
Day 6 we drive from Sivritos to Chania on the North-East side of Crete. This ride is a rough ride over sometimes very narrow roads of very poor quality, with many curves. Along the way you can enjoy the beautiful nature, the typical small villages and the beautiful surroundings. In RP4 we drive along the Amari Reservoir with a capacity of 22 million cubic meters of water and are expected to become one of the most important wetlands in the southeast of the Mediterranean. Many species of birds and animals have already appeared in the area. Visitors to the wider area visit the dam and admire the beautiful landscape. The first part to the lake is a nice wide road with beautiful views over the mountains and the gorge. At RP5 you can stop well to take pictures of the Amari reservoir and the Potami Dam
After this short stop we drive through beautiful winding roads through small villages to the only freshwater lake in Crete, Kournas Lake (RP14). This is an ideal place to stop for lunch and relax by the lake. There are several Taverns where you can enjoy a delicious meal. You can also rent a pedal boat at the beach.
Via the harbor town of Georgioupoli we drive to the small town of Alikambos, where you can visit the Dourakis vineyard. A great opportunity to experience how wine is made. You can also eat local dishes here. Please don't drink and drive, so whether or not to participate in the wine tasting or spitting. Of course you can buy a bottle for dinner in Chania.
The next part of the route has a lot of curves, the roads are very narrow and in some places of very poor quality, sometimes with gravel on the road. So be careful, especially with the very confusing bends, which are sometimes also quite sharp hairpin bends. The area is really beautiful with many shrubs and trees. Along the way there are a number of small coves where you can stop if you want to take a photo.
At RP31 we enter the Therisso gorge, a beautiful gorge of about 6 kilometers long with beautiful high cliffs, beautiful fauna and a number of small bridges. Be careful because the road is not too wide and it can be busy here with other enthusiasts who move on foot, by bike, quad or car.
After the Therisso gorge it is still about 6 kilometers to the end of this beautiful day Chania, where we spend the night at Camping Chania or in one of the many bungalows or Hotels, there is plenty of choice. You will stay near the beautiful beaches and there is plenty to do in Chania. We stay here for 2 days, because for day 7 there is a tour of the Eastern part of Crete.
This route is worth 4 **** Stars because of the beautiful roads, beautiful nature, unfortunately some roads are of a poorer quality and there are slightly less sights on the way than on the other routes, but it does not alter the fact that this is a route where as a rider you can enjoy the many bends.
