Route Summary
Route information: This is day 7 of a 12 day Road Trip on Iceland.
Driving in Iceland is a great experience whether you travel by car or as described in this review by motorcycle.
These routes are based on information about Iceland that you can find on the Internet, especially from the Guide to Iceland, where you can find a wealth of information to prepare you well for your trip. The material on this site has been compiled with great care, the link can be found in the review of the first route in this series.
You drive through landscapes that are varied and beautiful, you see glacier tongues, volcanic mountains, geothermal areas with active geysers, lava fields, craters, forests, waterfalls and incredibly rugged stretches of coast.
The routes in the north are part of the 'Arctic Coast Way'.
The main roads are of good quality but you also drive a lot on gravel roads, so not suitable for road motorcycles. Some of these roads are sometimes closed due to the weather. It is therefore important that you check the weather forecasts and the situation of the roads every day before you leave, this information can be found on the website of "Icelandic Meteorological Office" and for the roads on the website of "The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration" " The links are in the review.
Due to the Icelandic climate, this trip can only be made in the summer.

RouteXpert Review
We leave Siglufjörður, after a short look at the Herring Era Museum, within walking distance of the hotel (POI), and drive along the beautiful winding coastal road Route 76 to Hofsós (RP4); Here you can recharge yourself in the Infinity Pool while overlooking the incredibly beautiful Skagafjörður fjord. The Hofsós swimming pool is simply beautiful. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful swimming pools in Iceland, it was designed by the same architect responsible for the famous Blue Lagoon. It may not be Olympic in size, but because it is built into the hills above the sea, the views to Drangey are breathtaking. In rain or shine, the view from the pool is a combination of beautifully different shades of blue; the clear blue color of the swimming pool itself, the green blue sea, the dark blue of the islands and mountains in the distance, and finally the blueness of the sky on a clear day.
The Hofsós swimming pool is not strictly an infinity pool, but the impression you get when you swim in the geothermal waters is that you are right next to the sea.
After this you will travel over the headland of the remote and sparsely populated Skagi peninsula. You drive along the coast with beautiful panoramic views of the Skagafjörður fjord, all the way to Skagaströnd. Along the way there are several options to stop and enjoy the view.
In Skagaströnd (RP14) you can visit The Skagaströnd Museum of Prophecies. The exhibition focuses on rdórdí's fortune teller, the first-mentioned resident of Skagaströnd, who lived there at the end of the 10th century. The exhibition offers all kinds of interesting information about prophecies and fortune telling. Visitors can have their fortune told and read their palm on request. Children can explore the golden chest of vanórdis, where various interesting things are hidden.
After this it is only a short drive to Blönduós, where we spend the night.
I rate this route with 4 **** Stars, it is a short route with beautiful parts, beautiful panoramas along the fjords and some nice sights.
