Route 05/15 of a three-week round trip through the west of America, from Topaz Lake (Gardnerville) to Oakhurst.
Head south via HWY 395 for a scenic drive through the Toiyabe National Forrest. After Willow Springs / Virginia Creek settlement we take the SR 270 / Bodie road in an easterly direction to Bodie State Historical Park. This road is 13 miles / 21 km long of which the last 3 miles / 5 km are NOT HIDDEN!
After visiting this ghost town it goes via the same SR 270 / Bodie road back to HWY 395 which we then continue in a southerly direction to Mono Lake / Lee Vining. We leave HWY 395 at Lee Vining and turn right onto the Tioga Pass Road / SR 120.
Here we drive into the beautiful nature area of Yosemite National Park (toll). We follow this road until Yosemite Village. Along the way there are several beautiful viewpoints. I only mention two: RP 8 "Tenaya Lake" and RP 9 "Olmsted Point". After a visit to Yosemite Village we continue our journey in a westerly and later southern direction to drive to Oakhurst via the Southern Yosemite Hwy / SR 41. Along the way you will find the viewpoint "Valley view" at RP 16 and at RP 18 the viewpoint "Tunnel view". Just before you leave Yosemite NP (RP 20) you can make a trip to Mariposa Grove to view the giant Sequoia trees.
