RouteXpert Review
Day 5 of 5 Riding around AlabamaThis is the final day of riding through Alabama and the day starts off leaving Jasper and getting onto Highway 18. This is the sort of road we love to ride, plenty of bends to keep it entertaining and at the same time enough time between them to enjoy the passing countryside.
From Fayette to Gordo it is all about Route 159, a quite back road that sweeps along passing local farms and houses that appear from out of the trees. Time to relax and just enjoy the ride away from the main traffic areas.
Arriving in Tuscaloosa the traffic increases and Route 69 takes you along it’s 2 lanes of traffic quickly and easily before turning back to single lanes at Moundville, the final 50 miles on the 69 ir more quiet roads lines with trees.
Even though the 69 is not a busy road we leave it for a short time and ride Rt154 to Coffeeville, more quiet little back roads with more farms and empty stretches of road. It’s the sort of place that if you stop and hear a banjo playing then it is time to start moving again ????
Route 43 the Jefferson Davis Highway is our final companion as we head south and keep moving all the way to Mobile. There are no great skyscapers to warn you as you get closer, the few builds that sit alongside the road slowly increase until you cross the Chickasaw Creek (74) and you are turning off to the final hotel.
Great way to end a busy week, a nice easy ride along quiet free flowing roads. Just great scenery while riding great roads. 3 ½ stars for that alone
