"UK trip to Greece and Republic of North Macedonia"
In May 2017, I travelled from the UK to Greece and Republic of North Macedonia on another trip with the www.pemc.co.uk motorcycle club. I have made the daily routes available within MyRouteApp, if anyone is thinking of a trip to Greece. Fantastic riding, just takes a bit of commitment to get there ! Calais to Creutzwald, Fr. Then to Airolo, Fr. with the start of the St Gotthard Pass just up the road from the village (we rode it on return leg). Then to Modena, It. Then off to Ancona Port for midday overnight ferry to Igoumenitsa, Gr. ...don't expect the service you would get on overnight to Spain ferry....they sent us across diesel slippery decks, down ramps and crammed us against cars with no strap downs at all, that I saw. Then two days in Meteora, Gr. to see the mountain top monastries.....take a mini bus tour for half a day, not to be missed and still leaves time for a ride North into hillside in afternoon. A worthwhile divert the next day, would be to the village of Ropoto to see the village and sliding church.....Google it !......on way to Delphi, Gr. for two nights. Take the next morning to walk a short distance to see the Ancient Greek archaeological site with a stadium, Apollo's Temple and the museum, although it was hellish busy with tourist buses and I gave it a miss when I saw the queue to get in. Then to the coastal city of Thessalonika, Gr for two nights. Next we travelled over the border to the Republic of North Macedonia and the city of Skopje which is a weird blend of poor old town and then money being spent on all the wrong things to modernise other parts, with odd massive statues...IMO. Next day travelled to pretty Struga on shore of Lake Ohrid for one night. Then the start of retracing our route by heading for Igoumenitsa ferry port....overnight ferry back to Ancona/Modena....Airola with a quick blast via 'old' St Gotthard Pass, then new Pass up to the car park on peak before hotel.......next day via full length St Gotthard back to Creutzwald....then home to UK the next day, after 3,500 miles.
