Route Summary
The Trans Canada Highway, also known as TCH or Highway 1, is one of the longest highways in the world, running from Victoria on Vancouver Island in the west to St. John's in Newfoundland in the east.

This is part 25 that runs from Grand Falls to Fredericton.

The Trans Canada Highway passes through all the southern provinces of the country. The route can be driven in different ways. There are namely in various alternative routes that also belong to the TCH. The total distance is around 8,000 km. We not only drive the TCH, but will take the rural roads as much as possible, because only highway driving is too boring and Canada has many beautiful roads through its beautiful landscape.

You drive through all provinces and through very varied and scenic landscapes, from the Rockies in the West, the Central Prairies to the Eastern Maritimes and the Northern Forest.

The riding season is generally April through October with longer seasons on the west coast and southern Ontario.

Provide good all season clothing or bring rain gear, depending on the province and the season the weather can change and you may be surprised by a rain or even a snow or hail shower, so be prepared.

In Canada the metric system is used, so speeds are indicated in Km / h. A helmet requirement (DOT approved) applies throughout Canada.

You will see many wildlife throughout Canada. your similar animals from province to province, such as deer, buffalos, moose, caribou, wolves, pumas, bears, mountain goats, sheep, lynx, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, badgers, various rodents and all kinds of birds.
Even if it is very tempting to stop for a photo, don't do it, it can be very dangerous.

RouteXpert Review
Day 25 we drive from Grand Falls to Fredericton. There are several routes to drive, the route via the Trans Canada Highway through the scenic rural landscape is not bad, but completely highway yet boring with the motorbike.

You can take the NB-130 on the west side of the Saint John River, it is largely parallel to the TCH or you can also take the NB-105 (Undine Road) on the east side of the river, this is a beautiful two lane provincial road that winds south along the river through beautiful green New Brunswick.

We want to enjoy the beautiful country roads, so we take the last option, but before we do that we first visit the Malabeam Information Center / Museum and Zig Zag Zipline (RP3) in Grand Falls. Here you can float on a zipline above the Grand Falls, a truly spectacular experience. Round trip for $ 40. Open from May to June on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, July to August daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and in September on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

After this trip we turn onto the NB-105 Undine Road, this is a wonderful way to enjoy beautiful New Brunswick, in some places the road surface is damaged so look carefully.
You drive along green forests, meadows and you pass beautiful farms, churches and villages. At some points you can see the river, because this road follows the course of the river almost exactly. Along the way there are also some beautiful bridges and dams.

At RP9 we drive over the Tobique Narrows Dam, a hydroelectric power station built on the Tobique River in the Canadian province of New Brunswick and operated by NB Power Corporation. The powerhouse has a capacity of 20 MW. The dam and the power house were built between 1951-1953. Highway NB-105 crosses the Tobique River along the top of the dam. A fishing ladder helps migratory fish bypass the 24 meter high head of the dam.

At RP17 you have a view of the De Hartland Bridge, the longest covered bridge in the world. The bridge is 390 meters long and spans the Saint John River and connects the villages of Hartland and Somerville. The bridge was built in 1901 and initially it was a toll bridge. After ice in the river under the bridge partially caused the artwork to collapse in 1920, it was rebuilt and the covering was also constructed. In 1980, the bridge received the status of a national historical monument.

After crossing the river we turn left and continue on the NB-103 to Woodstock (RP19) where we will stop for lunch. Woodstock is New Brunswick's premier city located on the banks of the Meduxnekeag and Saint John rivers. Rich in over 160 years of history and heritage, this city is home to some of New Brunswick's early pioneers. Woodstock has some of the most beautiful 19th-century houses, churches and public buildings in the Maritimes. Take a walk on Woodstock's Heritagel Walking Tour to admire the architecture of these Victorian homes. This is a beautiful city to plan a longer stop to enjoy all the beauty.

The final stop is at the Mactaquac Dam (RP23), a dike dam consisting of a stone-filled construction sealed with clay and two concrete spillways, which form an arch over a narrow section of the Saint John River. The generator station complex contains the power station. The complex rises 40 meters above the river level, creating an upstream reservoir, locally referred to as the “Head Pond” or “main pond”, which covers 87 square km and extends 96 km upstream, to Woodstock. After this stop it is still 16 kilometers to Fredericton. Here are several hotels to stay overnight.

This route has beautiful roads, beautiful nature and beautiful panoramas, there are also a number of beautiful sights on the way, so I rate this route with 5 ***** Stars.
