RouteXpert Review
This trip is based on the routes that Marc Telkamp drove in 2009 during his tour of the Czech Republic. The routes may differ from the original due to map changes and daily distances.

This tour is dedicated to a visit to the rocks of Adršpach and Teplice (Adršpašsko-teplické skály), these rocks form one of the most remarkable landscapes in the Czech Republic. Skály is the Czech word for rock and this “rock city” is the largest and most whimsical in Central Europe. The rocks are located in the nature reserve in East Bohemia, against the Polish border in the region called Broumov. Due to erosion and movements of the earth's crust, the sandstone rocks have acquired the strangest shapes. Cliffs, rocks, gorges and obelisks up to 40 meters high form a fairytale landscape.

The rock towns can be reached from the towns of Adršpach and Teplice nad Metuj and are separated from each other by the Vlčí rokle (Wolf rocks). Each rock has been given its own name and some can only be reached via a ladder.

From Adršpach a hiking trail leads through the rocks, past lakes and waterfalls. The route through the Adršpašské skály starts at Lake Piskovna in Adršpach and leads deep into the valley of the river Metuje. Here you can admire the waterfall and take a boat trip on the lake hidden deep in the rocks. Well worth it!
The 4-kilometer boat trip takes about 2 hours and is also suitable for people with walking difficulties.

The walk at Adršpach itself is also easy for children and active elderly people to do, except maybe the climbing parts, but you can skip these. The trails at Teplice nad Metuj require a little more practice.

This route takes you through some towns that are also well worth a short stop, but the highlight of this tour is certainly the visit to these special rock formations, which is why I rate this route with 4 stars.
