Need an excuse for drive? Pop out for a pint of milk. This excursion from Oxford (or choose your own starting point) takes you through delightful single-lane country roads through wheat and dairy farms and woods; and through a few pretty stone villages. There is a stop to buy super fresh milk (bring your own bottle or buy one there) and frozen zero-miles meat, from the vending machine at Fir Farm. Then a backroads adventure begins, through small lanes and tiny hamlets including stunning Lower Slaughter and along the north side of the River Windrush. You could divert into Woodstock, Bourton-on-the-Water and Burford if they are not full of tour buses. Finally we return Burford-Charlbury on the fast "TT route", one of the best driving roads on the Cotswolds. Traffic notes: there can be some short bottleneck traffic delays crossing through Stow and passing Burford. And the "TT route" is best done when the road is quietest. This route avoids the busy A40 entirely.
