5 stunning routes offering the best of bonnie Scotland
About this collection
Scotland has undoubtedly got the most dramatic and breathtakingly beautiful landscapes and roads in the whole of the UK. This collection of 5 routes highlights the best that Scotland has on offer.
The North Coast 500 (NC500) (Header picture is of Kylesku Bridge)
What more can be said about this iconic and world famous route that has become a Mecca for those that enjoy a road trip, especially for those on two wheels. Some choose to complete this route in one day but my preference would be to spend a minimum of 3 days to fully enjoy and appreciate the stunning scenery of the Highlands of Scotland. This route has allowances to do just that.
The South West Coast 300 (SWC300)
The SWC300 travels through the Southern Uplands of Scotland and features fabulous coastlines, including two lowland peninsulas, and several traditional seaside hotspots of Ayrshire. Inland, the route winds through a delightful rolling countryside, edges atmospheric forests and crosses dramatic moorland.
The North East 250 (NE250)
This route chases whisky and landscapes as it follows the whisky trail through Aberdeenshire and Moray Speyside. It mixes countryside and coast, picturesque towns and villages and the UK’s largest National Park, The Cairngorms.
Inveraray to Oban including the Kintyre 66 (K66)
The newest of all the Scottish road trip routes is the K66, a 66 mile loop on the little known Kintyre Peninsula. I have included the entire K66 in this route that travels a little over 200 miles. Many people have heard of Kintyre thanks to Sir Paul McCartney's iconic song about the Mull of Kintyre which is situated at the southern end of this Scottish peninsula. However, not so many people make the effort to actually visit this underrated part of Scotland, mainly as it is a bit off the beaten track. The K66 is designed to change that. Mystery, intrigue and heaps of prehistoric sites along with yet more stunning land and seascapes.
The fifth route starts in the Central Lowlands of Scotland and travels mostly through the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. There is an optional section of forest trail that can be tackled by most and stops for lunch at the well known travellers rest stop, The Green Welly. It returns via Inveraray, the Rest and be Thankful Pass and Loch Lomond.
As with all MyRoute-app RouteXpert routes, these have been made equal for MRA Navigation, TomTom and Garmin devices meaning that whatever GPS you use, you and all of your travelling companions are guaranteed to follow these routes precisely. Enjoy.
