RouteXpert Review
A cross-border motorcycle route with a mix of Dutch and German charm. From the old forests and dolmens of Drenthe to the vast waterways and historic shipping in Germany. This route offers a variety of smooth winding roads, beautiful views and special stops. You ride past old monasteries, maritime museums and even a circuit for motorsport enthusiasts. A route for the adventurous rider who wants to combine culture and riding pleasure!

You start the route at McDonald's Emmen, a convenient place to grab a coffee before hitting the road. You quickly dive into nature at the Emmerdennen, where the centuries-old dolmen D45 is a first historical highlight. Here you immediately feel the rich history of the Drenthe landscape. Then you drive into Germany, where the first serious driving pleasure begins. Along the water of the Ems and via quiet back roads you reach Haren (Ems), a town known for its maritime history. A visit to the Schifffahrtsmuseum is recommended, where you can discover old ships and nautical stories. Then you open the throttle towards Circuit Meppen, a technically challenging circuit where motorcycle training and track days are regularly organized. A little further on is Meppen, a charming city with a historic center and cozy terraces - an ideal place for a short break. The route then takes you past the impressive Emsland Moormuseum, where you can learn more about peat extraction and the battle against the swamp. The vast peatlands and the wide views make this a special part of the route. On the way back you stop at Biener Landbäckerei Wintering, a traditional German bakery where you can enjoy freshly baked rolls and a good cup of coffee. Here you can really taste German hospitality.
The last kilometers bring you back to the Netherlands, where you drive via the quiet country roads of Drenthe towards Emmen. A last stop at McDonald's Emmen to talk and end your route.

The Pioneer 2 Culture Route is an adventurous mix of nature, history and great motorcycling. The combination of Dutch and German landscapes, exciting bends and cultural stops make this route highly recommended. Whether you enjoy the speed on the circuit, the history of old ships or just the beautiful roads, this ride has it all. A unique motor experience that you should not miss!

About this region
Drenthe (Dutch: [ˈdrɛntə] (listen); German: Drenthe) is a province of the Netherlands located in the northeastern part of the country. It is bordered by Overijssel to the south, Friesland to the west, Groningen to the north, and the German state of Lower Saxony to the east. Drenthe has been populated for 15.000 years. The region has subsequently been part of the Episcopal principality of Utrecht, Habsburg Netherlands, Dutch Republic, Batavian Republic, Kingdom of Holland and Kingdom of the Netherlands. Drenthe has been an official province since 1796. The capital and seat of the provincial government is Assen. The King's Commissioner of Drenthe is Jetta Klijnsma. The Labour Party (PvdA) is the largest party in the States-Provincial, followed by the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) and the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA).

Enjoy the many fortresses and castles that are included in the routes, such as Fort Veldhuis in North Holland. But also take a look at the route southeast of Nijmegen and visit the impressive Canadian War Cemetery and Memorial. The route 'Overijssel in bird's eye view' includes the oldest house in the Netherlands and the route along the IJssel is probably the most beautiful piece of asphalt in the Netherlands.

This way there is something for everyone in this route collection. The 10 most beautiful car and motorcycle routes in Friesland
Friesland officially, Frisian: Fryslân is a province in the north of the Netherlands. Friesland had 660,560 inhabitants in 2018. The capital is Leeuwarden. In addition to Dutch, Frisian has the status of administrative language in the province. But who does not know Friesland from the Elfstedentocht? An unparalleled skating festival, unfortunately it has been a long time since the last Elfsteden tour was held in Friesland, January 4, 1997 to be precise.

Not only your own language and a skating tour along the 11 Frisian cities, but also a very beautiful province to tour by car or motorcycle and enjoy all the beauty that the province of Friesland has to offer. For this purpose, a MyRoute app RouteXpert has compiled a Top 10 of Car and Motorcycle routes for you.

All routes in this collection have been checked and made equal for TomTom, Garmin and MyRoute-app Navigation by a MyRoute-app RouteXpert.
