I awarded this route 3 stars because the scenery and attractions on Goeree-Overflakkee are outstanding, and the roads are excellent. You'll ride past vast polders, dikes, dunes, and old villages with historic charm. From coast to culture, from locks to windmills, this ride offers a complete experience for motorcyclists who appreciate variety, space, and tranquility.
As the name suggests, a tour around Goeree-Overflakkee in the province of South Holland.
This is the 32nd in a series of 43 Endangered ANWB routes. These were published in Promotors between April 2015 and September 2016.

You'll start at Eetcafé de Stelle in Stellendam, a great place to warm up your engine. You'll soon wind through the fishing village towards the Scheelhoek nature reserve, after which you'll head towards Dirksland via the Nolleweg and Kraaijerdijk. The landscape opens up, with straight polder roads and expansive views, punctuated by historic village centers. At Ruurlo, Middelharnis, and Stad aan 't Haringvliet, you'll discover charming old streets, harbors, and churches. You can take a break, for example, at the cozy 't Wapen van Herkingen on Lake Grevelingen, where you can enjoy a delicious coffee or lunch with a view of the marina. Passing Den Bommel and Ooltgensplaat, you'll follow the Volkerak, an area where old fortifications are still visible. The route also takes you through Oude-Tonge and Nieuwe-Tonge, where you'll be reminded of the 1953 North Sea Flood – both impressive and understated. Once you're on your way to Ouddorp and Goedereede, the landscape changes: dunes, beach roads, and the sea breeze give your ride a different dynamic. This western side of the island offers more steering and a rugged coastal atmosphere, especially around the Ouddorp lighthouse and the historic center of Goedereede. You'll end your ride at Zoet of Zout, a charming restaurant on the Haringvliet with a view of the A Seal seal sanctuary. Time for a drink, a chat, and a look ahead to your next ride.
The Goeree-Overflakkee Route is a tour full of contrasts: from tranquil polders to bustling fishing villages, from water sports harbors to monuments to disasters and their recovery. The roads are well-maintained and varied – ideal for relaxed touring. The combination of nature, culture, water, and history makes this a fantastic day out on two wheels.
