Vehicle/Rider: Motorcycle. The demands on the rider are minimal. Tight crossings and tight corners pose somewhat greater challenges.
Roads: all asphalted, except for part of the route to Alp Matten which is not asphalted.

-This route starts between "Saanen" and "Gstaad" and ends in "Rubigen", near "Bern". I chose the starting point for the following reason: It has a petrol station and a small shop. There are hotels in both "Gstaad" and "Saanen". The price segment is rather high. The places are very busy in the season. The towns live from tourism.
I chose the end point because: There is a petrol station, several shops, a toilet... In addition, there is a direct connection to the motorway.
With a full tank we leave the petrol station and drive towards “Saanen”.
"Saanen"
After a short drive we turn left to drive over the "Mittelberg". This road is often narrow and confusing. Please drive carefully. Enjoy the "slow" driving. There will still be a few bumps in the road. But at this speed it is no problem. When you reach the top of the pass there is a "Sennhütte" (Alp house with simple catering) on the left (opening times unknown). After the top of the pass we drive towards "Abläntschen".
"Abläntschen"
The mountain village advertises itself as: The pearl in the middle of nowhere. Nothing but peace, nature and relaxation…..

It doesn’t matter whether you drive to “Abläntschen” or not. The roads lead back together.
Now drive along the “Jaunbach” towards “Jaun”. There are private rest areas on the right-hand side of the road. You can book these and also camp there overnight. There is more information at the relevant locations.
We arrive shortly before “Jaun”. There is a chairlift here that takes you to the “Gastlosen”. If you want to use the lift, please note the opening times.
"Jaun"
The route continues on a wide road towards the “Jaunpass”. Further up, the road becomes a little narrower again. In summer, a lot of motorcyclists meet at the top of the pass.
This would be the ideal place to have a coffee or something to eat.
We leave the pass and drive towards "Boltigen" and reach the "Simmental". A wide road takes us further towards "Wimmis". We do not drive directly to "Wimmis", but to "Reutigen". If you would like to visit the castle of "Wimmis" please visit the website. The link is at the end.
In “Reutigen” we turn left and drive to “Alp Matten” (please note that the toll road is only open seasonally). If the ticket machine is hidden, the road is closed). If you have paid the road usage fee, you can ignore the no-entry sign.

Some of the roads are unpaved, but most of them are paved.
Once you reach the top, you can have a drink and a snack in the “Sennhütte” (Alp house with easy catering). Enjoy the view of Lake Thun and the mountains.
We continue to "Wattenwil", the winding road goes uphill towards "Riggisberg". In "Riggisberg" we do not drive over the roundabout, but turn off a little earlier. (The road to the roundabout is a little narrow and confusing, so we turn left just before it) We gain altitude again and will take a short break and walk to the "Tavel Monument" (approx. 130 meters). Here, too, we will be able to enjoy a unique view of the "Lake Thun" and the mountains "Eiger Mönch Jungfrau" "Top of Europe". Let's hope for good weather with good visibility.
After this great view, we make our way to the end point. We drive via "Kehrsatz" to "Belp". We don't drive directly to "Belp" but instead drive past Bern Airport, which is located in Belp. It's a good idea to linger at the airport. Have something to drink and watch the air traffic. The airport is small, and when the weather is nice at the weekend, there is a bit of activity with private aircraft.
Then we tackle the short remaining stretch and our trip ends in “Rubigen”, where there is a petrol station and shops. From here there is also a direct connection to the motorway.

From the Eifel via the Alps to the Dordogne in 5 great days
Literally from the start of the Eifel you go to Camping Moto van Hans in 5 crazy rides. You cross 3 countries (Germany, France and Switzerland) several times and the number of motorcycle areas is phenomenal. Eifel, Moselle, Hunsrück, Pfälzerwald, Vosges, Jura, Alps and then along France's most beautiful rivers, the Drome, Tarn, Lot and Dordogne. The number of bends is indescribable. Make sure your phone / camera has enough space, because you will rarely experience so much beauty in such a short time. Note: Driving in mountainous areas requires some experience, the journey as a whole is "spicy"
Day 1 starts in the Eifel and ends in the middle of the Vosges. With MRA it is possible to find the smallest and best roads, which are ideal for this type of route. In the evening of course eating Flammkuchen! However, this route and that of day 2 have to be careful when working on the road in France. Gravel is sprinkled on the road here and that is not always convenient for motorcyclists.
Day 2 goes partly through the Vosges, then the Jura and then you drive a long way through Switzerland. Watch out for your speed here, otherwise it could be very expensive. You don't drive through the highest part of Switzerland, but there is plenty to steer and plenty to see. Your hotel is in Martigny. You can eat in the center, which you reach after 5 minutes.
Day 3 just starts in Switzerland and soon you are on the Route des Grandes Alpes. You tackle a number of very high passes here, such as the Iseran and the Galibier. The height differences are enormous here, you drive here deep valleys and high peaks. Spending the night in Serre Chevalier (where you could theoretically have skied a few months earlier) is a very special experience.
Day 4 still has some big passes in store, after that the route runs via the Drome and the Tarn. The rivers have cut very deep gorges in the relatively soft chalk, resulting in steep mountain formations. A lust for the eye! The old monastery where the hotel is located is not only a feast for the eyes, but also a rich culinary experience.
Day 5 is the last day and takes you through the Cévennes National Park. Simply put, a very large forest, but there is more. The highest peak is 1,900 meters and the roads in the Cévennes are generally very narrow. This has the advantage that they are not used much. Ergo low-traffic and excellent quality. However, on these very narrow roads you have to watch out for the local population and "waste" from the trees. The first don't take it so well with the course of the road and you regularly see it right in front of you on your side of the road, the second occasionally causes broken branches on the road. There is a good chance that at the end you will find Hans with a big grin and a welcome beer waiting for you.
All in all a very impressive ride. All 1,824.75 kilometers (according to MRA) are delightful. The roads are good, the hotels were all excellent, there were certainly culinary delights and the undersigned was very lucky that there were hardly any clouds during all 5 days (August 2023). For the less experienced rider it is advisable to gain some knowledge in advance about riding in mountains and/or to take a rest day after the "queen stage" (day 3).
For those who are going to make the journey: lots of safe kilometers and lots of fun.

With Lake Geneva in the far southwest, the Swiss (along with the French) also have one of the largest lakes on the continent. Don't forget Lake Maggiore in the south, although the red flag with the white cross only flies over a small part of it. There the influence of Italy becomes clear again. It is mainly based on language. This also applies to Lake Lugano, in the far south. This panoramic road, called the Grand Tour of Switzerland, is more than 1600 km long.
