RouteXpert Review
On the fifth day we ride from Ponte di Legno to Flums in Switzerland, a beautiful 275 km ride with many beautiful passes.

The first pass is the Passo di Gavia, a mountain pass in the Italian Alps in the Lombardy region. It is one of the highest passes in Europe, reaching a peak of 2,621 meters. The road runs straight through the pristine Stelvio National Park and is very narrow, often no wider than three meters. Overtaking is virtually impossible on this stretch, so diversions have been created. Deep in the valley flows the Frigidolfo River. In some places, there are no guardrails, and the abyss, over 500 meters deep, lies directly next to the road. This makes this road one of the most dangerous mountain passes. So be careful, drive slowly, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Via Bormio, we'll cycle the Stelvio Pass, a well-known, challenging, and notoriously high mountain pass in Europe. Along the way, there are opportunities to shop (for souvenirs) and have something to eat or drink. Please note that it can get busy, especially on weekends.
The highest point is 2,758 meters. The Stelvio has 39 hairpin bends on the south side (Bormio) and 48 on the north side (Prato). We'll cycle a loop and descend the Umbrail Pass twice. This narrow mountain pass also has many hairpin bends and several tunnels; note that these are unlit.

The journey through Switzerland also includes several passes, including the Flüela Pass, in the canton of Graubünden between Davos and Susch. This pass, with an elevation of approximately 2,400 meters, forms the main connection between the northern Engadine and Davos. Next to the mountain pass lies a small lake, the Schottensee. We also pass Lake Davos on our way to the Wolfgang Pass in Switzerland, located in the canton of Graubünden. This pass is situated at an elevation of 1,631 meters.

We drive through the Gotschnatunnel, a two-lane tunnel within a single tube, 4,207 meters long. It makes a 180-degree turn on the south side and merges into the Sunnibergbrücke, a magnificent span bridge over 500 meters long, on the north side. A magnificent view awaits you as you exit the tunnel.
We continue our way to our hotel in Flums along the Landquart River on a fairly quiet, flat valley road with nice gentle bends.
The hotel is situated among vineyards against a mountain with a beautiful view over the valley. Very friendly staff, spacious rooms (no air conditioning), and a good restaurant.
