Published: 16/10/2019
About five hours drive from Utrecht (via the highway) is one of the most beautiful areas to tour in Germany, the Harz.

The Harz is the highest low mountain range in northern Germany. The area is characterized by extensive forests, high plains that are partly used for agriculture, deeply cut valleys with wild rivers, streams and waterfalls and large and small reservoirs. Because of this there are many beautiful routes to drive. The asphalt is generally of very good quality. The Harz borders Thuringia where you can also make beautiful rides.

This route of 350km is a must-ride and worth 5 stars
You drive through some of the most beautiful parts of the Harz mountains, there are many curves in this route and driving experience is therefore desirable. You pass several mountain lakes and dams. At the Rappbodetalsperre is the longest suspension bridge in the world for pedestrians (RP15).

The route includes the Kyffhäuser 36 (RP20), which is a 3.8 kilometer stretch with 36 curves with an average increase / decrease of 10% and is part of an official street circuit.
Pay attention to this because there is still ridden hard here, but also controlled by the police. This route is downhill, so if you have time, you can also go up once.
At the bottom of the mountain there is a small biker Café (RP21).

You pass many villages and towns where there is an opportunity to eat and drink, please note that they are often closed between 14:00 and 17:00.
