On day 7 we drive a tour through the Picos de Europa National Park, where Fuente Dé is located.
The Picos de Europa is a mountain range in northern Spain, part of the Cantabrian Mountains, of which it is the highest part. The mountain range is located about 20 km south of the Spanish north coast on the border of the autonomous regions of Asturias, Cantabria and Castile and León.
You drive a large part along the river Sella, where the road seems to have been carved out of the rocks, truly beautiful roads through a beautiful green valley.
It is a beautiful tour through a beautiful nature area with beautiful winding roads and passes, you can enjoy beautiful panoramas. The roads are of good quality, but sometimes narrow so be careful. There is an option to drive part of the route off-road from the lunch stop to the hotel in Fuente Dé.
In Fuente Dé you can go to the top with the cable car “Teleferico Fuente De”, the most famous tourist attraction of the Picos. It is a closed gondola that takes you 800 meters higher in a few minutes. You will then be at an altitude of 1823 meters with a magnificent view over the mountains of the Picos de Europa. You can of course enjoy all this beauty for a while and then leave it at that, which is what many people do, but it is also a starting point for beautiful mountain walks. The cable car is open from 10:00 to 18:00 (the last ride up goes 15 minutes before closing). Around Easter and in the summer it is a bit longer (high season open from 8:00) and a return ticket costs €17 pp
