RouteXpert Review
This route is part of a 10-day motorcycle holiday.

There are no fixed stops planned for refueling, eating or drinking. When the opportunity arises, stop at one of the points indicated with a POI. Along the way there are several small villages with restaurants or cafes.
Hotels, sights and recommended points to stop at to enjoy the view are also indicated with a POI.

On day 5 we drive parts along the coastline but also over several passes with many viewpoints (Miradors), these are well indicated along the road with signs. There is often also a small parking lot, so take the time to stop every now and then and enjoy the beautiful panoramas.

The roads on the route are really very good and contain many bends. You drive through varying landscapes, from beautiful valleys, mountains and rocks, along rivers and lakes, so there is plenty to enjoy along the way.

You drive through Collados del Asón Natural Park, this is a natural park with parts of the river Asón. It was declared a natural park by Cantabria on February 18, 1999.

It is located in the Cantabrian Mountains in the southeast of Cantabria, with an area of 4,740 ha, of which 4,020 ha belong to the municipality of Soba and 720 ha are private land. The altitude varies between 240 and 1,632 m above sea level.

It is characterised by limestone cliffs, small beech forests and unique Cantabrian holm oaks, together with artificial pastures for cattle. The park is located in an area that has traditionally been very uninhabited, which makes it so natural and undisturbed.

There are several beautiful passes where you drive over with many beautiful curves, beware sometimes the roads are very narrow. A number of passes are indicated with a waypoint and a POI, such as;
Port of Las Muñecas
Collado del Asón, this pass has several viewpoints with beautiful views.
Port of Alisas
Puerto de las Estacas de Trueba
Pas de La Braguía, also with several viewpoints.

You will pass several beautiful and interesting places to stop along the way. Some are indicated with a waypoint and POI, such as;
The beautiful castle Castillo de Santa Ana
Playa 2a de la Pequena laguna, nice place to have a drink and enjoy the view over the bay.
Port of La Sia
Los Atrancos an old stone bridge over the Trueba River

Enjoy this beautiful ride, start early and take enough time to stop at the viewpoints along the way.

About this region
The Basque Country (; Basque: Euskadi [eus̺kadi]; Spanish: País Vasco [paˈiz ˈβasko]; French: Pays Basque), also called Basque Autonomous Community (Basque: Euskal Autonomia Erkidegoa, EAE; Spanish: Comunidad Autónoma Vasca, CAV) is an autonomous community in northern Spain. It includes the Basque provinces of Álava, Biscay, and Gipuzkoa.
The Basque Country or Basque Autonomous Community was granted the status of nationality within Spain, attributed by the Spanish Constitution of 1978. The autonomous community is based on the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country, a foundational legal document providing the framework for the development of the Basque people on Spanish soil. Navarre, which had narrowly rejected a joint statute of autonomy with Gipuzkoa, Álava and Biscay in 1932, was granted a separate statute in 1982.
Currently there is no official capital in the autonomous community, but the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz, in the province of Álava, is the de facto capital as the location of the Basque Parliament, the headquarters of the Basque Government, and the residence of the President of the Basque Autonomous Community (the Palace of Ajuria Enea). The High Court of Justice of the Basque Country has its headquarters in the city of Bilbao. Whilst Vitoria-Gasteiz is the largest municipality in area, with 277 km2 (107 sq mi), Bilbao is the largest in population, with 353,187 people, located in the province of Biscay within a conurbation of 875,552 people.
The term Basque Country may also refer to the larger cultural region (Basque: Euskal Herria), the home of the Basque people, which includes the autonomous community.
