RouteXpert Review
This route uses the A20 and then the M20 to leave Dover and bypass Folkestone before heading out into the English countryside. It passes through small towns and villages as it makes it's way to East Sussex and then Brighton on the coast. Brighton Pier can be seen from route point (RP) 28 and this would make a nice lunch stop as there is a good selection of cafes and restaurants. The return route to Dover stays closer to the coast and the views from RP 31 Beachy Head are worth stopping for. Perched on a hill, the medieval town of Rye RP 40, is the sort of place you thought existed only in your imagination. Almost suspended in time, Rye’s unhurried atmosphere and enchanting streets draw visitors with their warm welcome. It’s small enough to make you feel at home almost straight away but holds enough secret treasures to entice you to stay much longer.
The route now crosses Romney Marsh and back into the county of Kent to RP 46, here you have the option to return to Dover if you are a little late for your ferry.
