Taking the A143 east towards Billingford, within 2 miles you are off the main roads and the fun starts as you make your way through the spectacular Suffolk countryside. Passing through the historic charter town of Laxfield.
Laxfield became a settlement on the edge of some flat land where there was a stream big enough to support it.
The village secured a charter for markets in 1226 and managed to secure Saturday, the best day for a market. Now there is a monthly produce, craft and flea market on the first Saturday of every month from 10am until 12.30pm. There are usually between 20 and 30 stalls selling a wide variety of goods in and around All Saints Church and the Royal Oak pub next to the church. (waypoint 8)
First stop is a trip down memory lane at the David Silver Honda Collection, An inspiring collection of classic Hondas featuring over 150 models from 1948 to 1992 from the Cub to the Fireblade there is something for everyone. (waypoint 14)
As you continue on you will pass through the medieval village of Lavenham & the vibrant village of Long Melford famous for its two stately historic houses both of which are open to the public (waypoints 31 & 34)
Lunch is at the famous Krazy Horse a multi franchise Car & Motorbike dealership with 11 different makes to view, along with parts, accessories & apparel makes this a destination for all petrol heads. (waypoint 47) On the outskirts of Historic Bury St Edmunds, the home of Saint Edmund, the original patron Saint of England (waypoint 46) Go straight on here to visit the town.
The final leg of the journey takes you north passed RAF Lakenheath through Thetford Forest onto the historic market town of Thetford, once the ancient capital of East Anglia, before arriving back to the Wortham Tea Rooms to reflect on your day.
Notes – There are 3 fuel stations on route the first is close to waypoint 14 & David Silver Honda, the 2nd is between waypoints 24 & 25 and the 3rd between waypoints 46 & 47 so plenty of opportunities for those with smaller fuel tanks.
