RouteXpert Review
Donegal - Westport A ride on good asphalt roads through different counties with the emphasis on Yeats County (Sligo).
A small detour on the Mullaghmore peninsula for a beautiful view of Mullaghmore House with the imposing Ben Bulben (RP3) in the background. In order to view this "table mountain" at its best, I have indicated a viewpoint by means of a POI (RP4).
We drive through Drumcliff where the grave of the poet WB Yeats can be found (RP5). His quote: "There are no strangers here, just have friends with yet" is so applicable to Ireland.
Then we drive around Lough Gill. At Park's Castle is a great place to stretch your legs and enjoy the sight of the castle and the lough.
After this the route becomes via a fairly direct road to Westport.
Westport is known for its love of music, with festivals and musical highlights in abundance. If there is no major music event, do not panic! Many of the bars in the city organize live music week after week.
