Boerenhol
This route starts in the village with the beautiful place name: Waterlandkerkje. This village is located in the municipality of Sluis in the province of Zeeland. In January 2021, Waterlandkerkje had approximately 480 inhabitants.
The village, which is close to the Dutch-Belgian border, is known in the region for the singing and organ concerts that take place here annually on the weekend after Pentecost. The so-called Meerminnefeesten are also organized annually in Waterlandkerkje, including a tractor race, music and a fair.
Then Boerenhol appears, this is a Dutch hamlet in the Zeeland municipality of Sluis, in the Zeeuws-Vlaanderen region, located between the villages of Breskens and Groede. The hamlet consists of ribbon buildings on the N 675 and has approximately 100 inhabitants. Boerenhol fell successively under the municipalities of Groede, Oostburg and Sluis.
Fast forward to Number One! Who wouldn't want to be number one? If you move to the town of Number One in Zeeland, you are: a resident of Number One. If you want to live in this hamlet, you will have to move to the municipality of Sluis in West Zeeland Flanders. The town of Number One was founded at the end of the eighteenth century, when the Hooge Plaete sandbank was drained and the Hoofdplaatpolder was created after reclamation. The farm workers placed posts with numbers to demarcate the area. Pole no. 1 was placed near the current hamlet Number One; hence this special place name. In 2017, approximately 135 people lived in the hamlet on an area of 0.26 km².
Then you go through Biervliet, this is a city in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, the southern part of the Dutch province of Zeeland. Biervliet has been part of the municipality of Terneuzen since 1970; Previously it was an independent municipality. Biervliet received city rights before 1183 and had a population of 1,595 in 2023.
Via the Western Scheldt Tunnel, this is a 6.6 kilometer long toll tunnel in the N62 under the Western Scheldt between Ellewoutsdijk on Zuid-Beveland and Terneuzen in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, making it the longest tunnel for road traffic in the Netherlands. Once in Zuid-Beveland you set course for De Zeelandbrug, this is a road bridge over the Oosterschelde with a total length of 5022 meters. It connects Noord-Beveland with Schouwen-Duiveland, thus providing a shorter connection with the towns of Middelburg and Goes on the southern side, and Zierikzee and Bruinisse on the northern side.
You can stop for coffee on the Grevenlingendam at Restaurant Grevelingen, which is located in a beautiful location on the beach. Located on the edge of Bruinisse, halfway along the Grevelingendam. The view from the terrace of the Oosterschelde is breathtaking. The self-service restaurant is open 7 days a week all year round. After coffee, we go to the De Haringvliet Bridge, which connects the Hoeksche Waard via the Hellegatsdam with Goeree-Overflakkee and via the bridge over the Volkerak locks with the mainland of North Brabant. The whole is also called Volkerakdam.
Via the Hoeksche Waard you cross the "old Maas" and soon you arrive in Koedood, this is a hamlet in the southwest of the municipality of Barendrecht, in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located on the Koedood river, which used to connect the Oude Maas with the Nieuwe Maas.
Via the edge of Dordrecht and Papendrecht, you go towards Schoonhoven, where you cross the Lek. Before you board the ferry, you could have lunch at "Heeren aan de Lek" or across the street at "Cafetaria Brasserie de Veerpoort" or at "Rivero", plenty of choice.
Via nice back roads you go to Harmelen, Harmelen is one of the three village centers of Woerden located in the Green Heart. Harmelen has traditionally been an agricultural municipality and this is still clearly visible in the abundance of nature around the village. It was formed by the continuous change of the course of the Old Rhine that runs straight through the village. If you stay overnight in Het Wagen van Harmelen, you will immediately be at the starting point of the second route along special place names.

Zeeland
About this region
Zeeland is the westernmost and least populous province of the Netherlands. The province, located in the south-west of the country, borders North Brabant to the east, South Holland to the north, and the country of Belgium to the south and west. It consists of a number of islands and peninsulas (hence its name, meaning "Sealand") and a strip bordering the Flemish provinces of East and West Flanders. Its capital is Middelburg with a population of 48,544 as of November 2019, the largest municipality in Zeeland is Terneuzen (pop. 54,589). Zeeland has two seaports: Vlissingen and Terneuzen. Its area is 2,934 square kilometres (1,130 sq mi), of which 1,151 square kilometres (440 sq mi) is water, and it has a population of 383,689 as of November 2019.
Large parts of Zeeland are below sea level. The last great flooding of the area was in 1953. Tourism is an important economic activity. In the summer, its beaches make it a popular destination for tourists, especially German tourists. In some areas, the population can be two to four times higher during the high summer season. The coat of arms of Zeeland shows a lion half-emerged from water, and the text luctor et emergo (Latin for "I struggle and emerge"). The country of New Zealand was named after Zeeland after it was sighted by Dutch explorer Abel Tasman.

The 10 most beautiful car and motorcycle routes in the Netherlands
These 10 routes in the Netherlands have been carefully selected, checked and made equal for TomTom, Garmin and MyRoute-app Navigation by a MyRoute-app RouteXpert. The 10 most beautiful motorcycle and car routes in the Netherlands are always a snapshot, and a personal opinion of the reviewer. This does not alter the fact that every lover of beautiful roads and interesting sights will enjoy these routes.
The ten routes are spread over 10 provinces, we only skipped Flevoland and South Holland. Interesting routes can also be found in the MyRoute app RouteXpert library, but we still want to stick to the 10 most beautiful and not the 12 most beautiful.
Enjoy the many fortresses and castles that are included in the routes, such as Fort Veldhuis in North Holland. But also take a look at the route southeast of Nijmegen and visit the impressive Canadian War Cemetery and Memorial. The route 'Overijssel in bird's eye view' includes the oldest house in the Netherlands and the route along the IJssel is probably the most beautiful piece of asphalt in the Netherlands.
This way there is something for everyone in this route collection. If you do not agree with these 10 routes, please send us an e-mail, indicate which route(s) should be removed and which route you would like to see instead. Maybe your route will be included in this collection of the 10 most beautiful routes in the Netherlands!
