RouteXpert Review
Day 1 of 5 Riding around AlabamaLeaving Mobile on the 58 the first stop is Battleship Park (WP2) Take time to view the USS Alabama and the USS Drum. Once you have enjoyed the history of the US Navy continue across Mobile Bay until reaching the 225 and head north.
Today’s route is about back roads and staying off the Interstate. And the first 25 miles are exactly that, a quiet backroad with easy riding. The trees line the side of the road as you pass the small number of houses and businesses along the way. Eventually Highway 225 meets with Highway 59 and it is time for a coffee at the Stagecoach Café in Stockton (WP9). 25 miles later passing churches and going over streams you take a left north onto the County Road 1 and enjoy the tree lined journey. Stopping at Perdue Hill for fuel and then continue north towards Clairborne. Take the right up the 39 and ride towards Fountain. When you meet with the 41 the curves and bends let you enjoy the riding and the scenery. Arriving in Camden it is time for another break and time to pull into Larry’s Drive in (WP26). Riding out onto the 28 then taking the 21 all the way through Hayneville and onto the 80 and into Montgomery.
Arriving in Montgomery the tourist part of the day starts.
First visiting the Governor’s Mansion (WP35) then to visit the Civil Rights Memorial (WP36). Around the corner to the First Whitehouse of the Confederacy and then the Alabama State Capitol (WP38) before stopping at the hotel for the night.
