RouteXpert Review
You start the engine and slowly leave Prescott behind you. The sun casts long shadows across the asphalt, while the smell of pine and desert dust mingles in the warm air. Ahead of you lies the highway you will follow today – a road full of adventure, history and breathtaking views. Your final destination is Flagstaff, a city high in the mountains, surrounded by forests. There, fresh air and the atmosphere of the old west await. This ride promises to be one you will not soon forget.

The first few kilometres take you through the vast forests of the Prescott National Forest. The road winds up and in the distance you see Watson Lake, a bright blue lake that sparkles between large granite rocks. The sunlight dances on the water, and for a moment you catch a glimpse of this impressive landscape. Then the lake and the rocks disappear behind the hills again.
You continue towards Jerome, an old mining town that seems to be glued to the mountainside. It feels as if time has stood still here. Narrow streets lead you past historic buildings, art galleries and the special place Gold King Mine & Ghost Town. Here you walk between old mining machines, rusty trucks and wooden buildings that remind you of the rough life of the past. Everything breathes the atmosphere of the wild west.
After this visit, the road descends. The surroundings change: the air becomes drier, the trees make way for cacti and dry bushes. In the distance, the red rock formations of Sedona appear. Here you take a well-deserved break. You enjoy lunch with a view of the impressive Canyons. Sedona is known for its art and spiritual energy, something you feel in the city - from crystal shops to meditation centers.
After lunch, you drive to Slide Rock State Park in Oak Creek Canyon. You turn off the engine and cool off in the fresh water. The natural rocks form a slide and the water carries you along naturally. The cold is a bit of a shock, but under the warm sun it is wonderfully refreshing.
Then comes the last stage. You drive through the pine forests of the Coconino National Forest. The road climbs higher and the air gets cooler. Between the tall trees you feel that Flagstaff is close. Just before you reach the city, you stop for a gas tank – a little preparation for what comes tomorrow.

Flagstaff is not only the end point of your ride today, it is also the gateway to one of the greatest natural wonders of the world: the Grand Canyon. But because you still have some extra time before it gets dark, you decide to make another detour. Via Route 66, which runs right through Flagstaff, you drive to an impressive place: a thousand-year-old meteorite crater, which is still well preserved. A spectacular end to this day.
After arriving at your hotel, check in and cross the street to the restaurant for a hot meal. While relaxing with a refreshing drink, reflect on a day full of impressions. This trip was not just a ride, it was an experience – a journey through history, nature and the real Arizona.

Arizona
About this region
Arizona (AIR-iz-OH-nə; Navajo: Hoozdo Hahoodzo Navajo pronunciation: [hoː˥z̥to˩ ha˩hoː˩tso˩]; O'odham: Alĭ ṣonak) is a state in the Western United States, grouped in the Southwestern and occasionally Mountain subregions. It is the 6th largest and the 14th most populous of the 50 states. Its capital and largest city is Phoenix. Arizona shares the Four Corners region with Utah to the north, Colorado to the northeast, and New Mexico to the east; its other neighboring states are Nevada and California to the west and the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California to the south and southwest.
Arizona is the 48th state and last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the Union, achieving statehood on February 14, 1912. Historically part of the territory of Alta California in New Spain, it became part of independent Mexico in 1821. After being defeated in the Mexican–American War, Mexico ceded much of this territory to the United States in 1848. The southernmost portion of the state was acquired in 1853 through the Gadsden Purchase.
Southern Arizona is known for its desert climate, with very hot summers and mild winters. Northern Arizona features forests of pine, Douglas fir, and spruce trees; the Colorado Plateau; mountain ranges (such as the San Francisco Mountains); as well as large, deep canyons, with much more moderate summer temperatures and significant winter snowfalls. There are ski resorts in the areas of Flagstaff, Alpine, and Tucson. In addition to the internationally known Grand Canyon National Park, which is one of the world's seven natural wonders, there are several national forests, national parks, and national monuments.
Since the 1950s, Arizona's population and economy have grown dramatically because of migration into the state, and now the state is a major hub of the Sun Belt. Cities such as Phoenix and Tucson have developed large, sprawling suburban areas. Many large companies, such as PetSmart and Circle K, have headquarters in the state, and Arizona is home to major universities, including the University of Arizona and Arizona State University. Traditionally, the state is politically known for national conservative figures such as Barry Goldwater and John McCain, though it voted Democratic in the 1996 presidential race and in the 2020 presidential and senatorial elections.
Arizona is home to a diverse population. About one-quarter of the state is made up of Indian reservations that serve as the home of 27 federally recognized Native American tribes, including the Navajo Nation, the largest in the state and the United States, with more than 300,000 citizens. Since the 1980s, the proportion of Hispanics in the state's population has grown significantly owing to migration from Mexico. In terms of religion, a substantial portion of the population are followers of the Catholic Church and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon).
