Along the way there is a lot to see, including the castle in Bentheim, the rock formation Dörenther Klippen, the motorcycle museum in Ibbenbüren and the half-timbered houses in Tecklenburg.
This route is often driven by me. Often alone, but sometimes also with several people. This route was created by combining some of the many beautiful roads.
Eventually the route takes you back to the center of De Lutte.

Teutoburgerwald
The route starts in the center of De Lutte. At Eetcafe Plexat you first enjoy a delicious cup of coffee and a delicious piece of apple pie from Pa, a specialty of Plexat. The tour starts shortly after. You are already driving in Germany after about 5 minutes. The first part of the route runs on beautiful major roads, on which it is not busy. You will soon find yourself in Bentheim, where you can possibly visit the castle (RP3). For information about opening times and prices see the link below.
Via places like Schüttorf, Salzbergen and Rheine you drive towards the Teutoburgerwald. Slowly the area becomes a bit hilly where the roads wind nicely through. Close to Ibbenbüren, the route turns right and begins today's first climb. Beautiful through the forest, so tight asphalt that a billiard tournament could be organized on it. A little further up you can see a rock formation known as the 'Dörenther Klippen' (RP12). With a little imagination you seem to be able to see a bending woman in it (Hockende Weib).
You continue the route towards the Motorradmuseum Ibbenbüren (RP13), which is definitely worth a visit. There are some beautiful engines waiting to be viewed. For information about opening times and prices see the link below.
The route takes you further into the Teutoburgerwald, towards Tecklenburg (RP15). A place with a rich history. Definitely worth a visit, if only to see the many half-timbered houses. For more information about the rich history of Tecklenburg click on the link below.
The route winds further via Hagen to Lienen. Along the way there is the possibility to stop at a viewpoint (RP23) which gives a fantastic view over a (working) quarry. Shortly after this viewpoint you enter the world of hairpin bends, two of which are included in this route. But before that, a short break at Malepartus, a beautifully situated restaurant in the middle of the forest. The view from the terrace is well worth it.
After lunch finally the promised hairpin bends, unfortunately there are only two... Of course nobody can stop you from driving up and down a few times. :-) Via Bad Iburg and Hilter am Teutoburgerwald you arrive at Bergloh. The 'Bergrennen Osnabrück' takes place in this small town every year. The start of this competition can be found at RP23. During the race, the aim is to drive up the mountain as fast as possible. Of course that is not the intention now, despite the fact that the super-tight asphalt invites it. Hold back a little and enjoy the beautiful winding road!
You are now driving in the middle of the Teutoburgerwald and it shows. Beautiful roads, hills that are starting to look like mountains and pleasant views. You get a new one around every bend. Bad Iburg (RP27) is located in the middle of this beautiful piece of nature. This spa and recreation area is well worth a visit if time permits.
The route continues via Hagen, Holzhausen and Hasbergen towards Lotte, recognizable by the large roundabout. And let's just say that a very nice ice cream parlor (RP37) is located there! Reason to park the motorcycle again and enjoy a delicious ice cream. Pay particular attention to the time it takes to place the order on your table.
After the ice cream, there is an opportunity on the other side of the roundabout to fill the tank at the interesting German petrol prices (RP38).
After this stop, the route slowly but surely heads out of the Teutoburgerwald towards the Netherlands. Via places like Dickenberg, Hörstel and Salzbergen we come closer and closer to home. Finally, you cross the border at Denekamp and drive through the beautiful Twente countryside back to the ice cream parlor La Venezia in De Lutte, the end point of this route. Getting off at Eetcafe Plexat twenty meters further is of course also possible, something for everyone.
All in all a beautiful route that you can enjoy all day long. The combination of the wooded area, the hilly landscape and the quality of the roads always gives me a holiday feeling and I hope to convey that to you with this route.
Lots of fun!
