This route runs from Portal Nous towards the southeastern part of the island. The final destination is Santuari de Sant Salvador, a monastery dating back to the mid-14th century. Via beautiful winding roads you reach this location which gives you a great 360 degree view of Mallorca.
Next to this monastery you will come to another monastery, located at an altitude of 543 meters. Of course, a visit to the ostrich farm and the only archaeological museum in the Balearic Islands should not be missed.
Because of the beautiful surroundings, the equally beautiful roads and the nice sights, I rate this route with 5 stars.

The route runs from the starting point of Portals Nous in a southwesterly direction. After a few kilometers you are already in the 'inland' of Mallorca and the first beautiful bends present themselves. Already after 7 kilometers you drive over the first 'col' of this route, albeit with a low height of 103 meters, but still ... it is a col!
In Calvià you turn right onto the Ma-1016, which guarantees 15 kilometers of curves and views. After this amazing stretch you leave Serra de Tramuntana and head for the southeastern part of the island via beautifully landscaped roads that show you many olive trees on the left and right.
Just outside Algaida you pass the excavations of Son Fornés. Discover how Mallorcans lived in prehistoric times at this archaeological museum, where you can see the results of excavations carried out at the Son Fornes site.
The museum itself is housed in an 18th century flour mill and is located close to Montuiri, in the center of the island, 2.4 km away from the excavation site (Son Fornes). It is best to visit the museum first as there is little information to be found at Son Fornes itself.
The exhibition shows the results of an excavation in 1988. Visitors can learn about the prehistoric origins of Mallorca in the 10th century BC up to the Roman conquest of the island in the year 123 BC.
When you get close to Falanitx, you can see the destination of this route from afar, high on top of the mountain. Via a number of pleasant hairpin bends you reach Santuari de Sant Salvador, located at an altitude of 510 meters.
The Sanctuary of Sant Salvador is a monastery dating back to the mid-14th century. It was built around the time of the Black Death, when altitude was believed to keep this disease at bay.
The monastery was completely restored in the 18th century. Inside the church is a Gothic altarpiece and striking religious paintings. For a music and light show €2,- will be charged. A shrine to La Mare de Dèu full of offerings can be found in a room off the courtyard. Veneration of the Virgin Mary is also visible in the small chapel on the way to the monastery.
The monument to Christ the King was inaugurated in 1934. The 7 meter high copper statue stands on a 37 meter high platform. The 14 meter high Picot Cross can be found at another beautiful viewpoint that is a fifteen minute walk away. Extensive plains, the southeast coast, the castle of Santueri and, on a fine day, the island of Cabrera, are all visible from here. The church is open daily between 07:00 and 20:00.
After leaving this highlight behind you, you will pass Artestruz, or the ostrich farm, a few tens of kilometers further. Founded in 1998 thanks to the Loffler family's dream to bring these great winged friends from South Africa; Artestruz is a world full of love and respect for animals, an experience to enjoy incredible moments! From learning about the history of these mysterious birds, taking authentic photos to cooking a giant egg!
A little further on you have the same experience as at Santuari de Sant Salvador. A high mountain that you look at on which a monastery is located. Once you have arrived at the top, a spectacular view awaits you.
El Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Cura is located on top of Puig de Randa. At 543 meters above sea level, it is the highest point in the center of Mallorca. A shrine to Our Lady of Cura, it welcomes visitors to enjoy the tranquility of the hotel, restaurant, small museum and church.
The stunning 360-degree view provides plenty of motivation for cyclists climbing the summit. Ramon Llull recorded here that he received his 'enlightenment'. It led to a lifelong work devoted to a new world order and reform of the Church. Followers of the polymath founded a Lulian hermitage here. From the 15th it grew into a shrine to Our Lady of Cura. The shrine has been an important center of Marian devotion, Lulian devotion and knowledge. One of Mallorca's most prestigious secondary schools was once located here. It closed in 1830 and a period of neglect followed. Today, Santuari de Cura's Hotel & Restaurant offers peaceful retreats. As one of Mallorca's most spectacular viewpoints, it also makes a great day trip destination.
From this second highlight you slowly drive back to the starting point of the route, Portals Nous. You drive under the flight path of the airport, so don't be alarmed if you see such a large bird coming right over you!
Have fun driving this route!
