Route Summary
Mallorca is the largest island of the Balearic archipelago and is known for its lively seaside resorts with long boulevards, rugged hinterland and picturesque old towns.
This route runs from Portals Nous towards Soller, located in a fertile valley with orange groves. This authentic village is located 5 kilometers from the coast and is extremely popular. Soller is best known for the authentic wooden train.
The route, which runs entirely through Serra de Tramuntana, is challenging, has many bends and narrow steep roads in some places. You will pass numerous cols, including the Coll des Cocoons, Col des Pi and the Coll des Vents. In total you will pass more than 10 cols and you will see some old culture of the island along the way.
Because of the beautiful roads, the fabulous views and the nice sights I rate this route with 5 stars.

RouteXpert Review
Mallorca is one of the most popular sun destinations in Europe. The white sandy beaches with overhanging palm trees, immense limestone rocks and crystal clear sea attract many sun worshipers every year. But a holiday in Mallorca has more to offer than sun, sea and sand; such as beautiful sights and great motorcycling on the many kilometers of beautifully landscaped roads! Moreover, it is only a 2.5 hour flight and there is no time difference!

The route departs in a westerly direction and within 7 kilometers the first col rolls under the wheels. It may not feel like a col, but still, it's on the map! It is the first, many more will follow.
Arriving in Andratx you pass the Castell de Son Mas. This castle, located on top of a hill, dominates the valley of the town of Andratx. After the Conquest, this estate was created from the amalgamation of the Muslim hamlets of Buendar and Cornador (Mount Cornador). It faces Mount Cornador to the north, the hamlet of Libio (Son Luís and Sa Juvera) to the east, Sa Coma Calenta to the south and the town of Andratx to the west. Currently, the castle serves as the town hall of Andratx.

The route continues as you get closer and closer to the coast. Along the way you pass a number of viewpoints where you actually have to stop to enjoy the surroundings.
After more than 55 kilometers, you have already 'conquered' 6 cols, you will see a tower looming on the left side of the road, the Torre des Verger. This is an old watchtower in the municipality of Banyalbufar in Mallorca. The tower is located on the northwest coast of the Spanish island of Mallorca. Torre des Verger is located on a high promontory of the Serra de Tramuntana, which at this point descends steeply to the Mediterranean. It is about 50 meters from the MA-10 road that connects Banyalbufar and Estellencs.
Torre des Verger was built in 1579 as a watchtower to guard and defend this stretch of coast against pirate attacks. Today it serves as a watchtower. It is accessed by a path and climbed by an internal staircase. From his platform he gives an overview of the coastline. Torre des Verger is about eight meters high, has a diameter of about four meters and is built from the yellow limestone that occurs on its site. Above the entrance of the tower is a bay, over which the entrance could be defended. The tower has an open platform that is accessed through a hatch. Its elevated position makes it an outstanding point, which today offers breathtaking photo opportunities for the many tourists who visit it every year.

The route continues towards Banyalbufar, after this place you drive over the next three cols in this route before you get the Monestir de Miramar in sight. This is one of the oldest 'possessions' in Mallorca: it was commissioned by Ramón Llull and founded in 1276 as a monastery and oriental language school. It was occupied by various religious orders (Cistercians, Dominicans, Hieronymites, hermits).
The Miramar is flanked by the estates of s'Estaca and Son Marroig, on the border of the municipality of Valldemossa. It was built in 1276 on the initiative of Ramón Llull, who founded a missionary school dedicated to the study of theology and Arabic, and was governed by the Order of the Friars Minor. Before that, King Jaime II had received the property from the Cistercians, who had owned it since it was given to them by Count Nuño Sanz.

After the Miramar you set course towards the destination of this route, Sóller. Located in the heart of the 'valley of oranges' or 'valley of gold' as it is sometimes called, the authentic town of Sóller has much to offer visitors and residents alike. Find out everything you need to know about spending time in this modernist city. The town of Sóller in northwestern Majorca grew prosperous thanks to the valley's abundant citrus groves. In the 19th century, when the area was isolated from the rest of Majorca by mountains, the oranges were shipped to France from the nearby western coast of Port de Sóller. Many locals went to work in France and returned - making their fortunes - to build some of the handsome modernist properties that grace this city today.
In Sóller you can enjoy the sun on one of the beautiful terraces on the square near the church. Here you can enjoy a sandwich or fresh tapas while people stroll by. With the nice cafes, restaurants, various tapas bars, and pastry shops, there are few reasons to drive further. The old town is typically Mediterranean, with narrow alleyways. Don't expect too many jewelry boutiques in the streets around the center because the buildings mostly have a residential destination. The main square has plenty of cafes and the area comes alive on Saturdays when the local market takes place. Sóller grew rich from the abundance of oranges and the results can be seen in the extravagant modernist architecture of the village. Dominating the town square, the impressive Church of Bartomeu was built in the 13th century.

After visiting Sóller you head south. Shortly after Soller you have the choice to drive through the tunnel, but just before this now toll-free tunnel you turn left to conquer the col de Soller. With its almost 500m altitude and more than 20 hairpin bends you can enjoy yourself on this col. Please note, the bends are sometimes quite tight!
In the last part of the route you drive towards Palma, where you will encounter the last four cols. Just before Palma you turn towards Portals Nous where this beautiful route ends.

About this region
Mallorca, or Majorca, is the largest island in the Balearic Islands, which are part of Spain, and the seventh largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.
The capital of the island, Palma, is also the capital of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. The Balearic Islands have been an autonomous region of Spain since 1983. There are two small islands off the coast of Mallorca: Cabrera (southeast of Palma) and Dragonera (west of Palma). The anthem of Mallorca is "La Balanguera".
Like the other Balearic Islands of Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, the island is an extremely popular holiday destination, particularly for tourists from the Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom. The international airport, Palma de Mallorca Airport, is one of the busiest in Spain; it was used by 28 million passengers in 2017, with use increasing every year since 2012.

Exploring the magnificent roads of Mallorca
Mallorca is one of the most popular sun destinations in Europe. The white sandy beaches with overhanging palm trees, immense limestone rocks and the crystal clear sea attract many sun worshipers every year. But a holiday in Mallorca has more to offer than sun, sea and beach: Beautiful sights and wonderful motorcycling on the many kilometers of beautifully landscaped roads! Moreover, it is only a 2.5-hour flight from the Netherlands and there is no time difference!

These four routes give you an impression of how beautiful Mallorca is. You will explore the Serra de Tramuntana in all its beauty and tranquility with its many beautiful views. There are plenty of great restaurants along the way where you can enjoy a well-deserved break on the terrace.

These four routes are great for a long weekend or midweek break, great for a few days away. There are several providers where you can rent a motorcycle, you can even explore Mallorca on a Royal Enfiel Himalayan, how fun is that?

A few sights are discussed per route in the review. These often tell something about the history of the area in which you play. Fun facts, okay. You are completely free to visit these sights, you can of course also choose your own points of interest.
But it is a great thing that you probably traveled to this area for, the great driving and the beautiful weather. And as mentioned above, you are in a true motorcycle paradise where steering is fantastic!
