Route Summary Motorcycling in Crete is a true pleasure. This island has many beautiful winding roads with thousands of bends, idyllic villages, stunning views of the sea, bays, beautiful passes, and ravines.
The locals are very hospitable. The roads are reasonable, but it's recommended to rent an all- or off-road motorcycle, as there are also many poor roads with potholes and unpaved sections.
This highly touristy island boasts many hotels, particularly along the coast. There are also B&Bs and several campsites. This tour will focus on campsites.
The routes can be explored by motorcycle, car, or quad bike, and there are several rental companies in Crete where you can rent all-road, custom, quad bikes, buggies, scooters, and cars. Prices for a weekly motorcycle rental range from €280 to €900, depending on the model.

RouteXpert Review We pass the Amari Reservoir, which has a capacity of 22 million cubic meters of water and is expected to become one of the most important wetlands in the southeastern Mediterranean. Numerous bird and animal species have already appeared in the area. Visitors from the surrounding area visit the dam and admire the beautiful scenery. The first section to the lake is a beautiful, wide road with stunning views of the mountains and the gorge. Along the way, there are opportunities to stop to take photos of the Amari Reservoir and the Potami Dam.
We'll drive along beautiful, winding roads through small villages to Crete's only freshwater lake, Lake Kournas. This is an ideal spot to stop for lunch and relax by the lake. There are several tavernas where you can enjoy a delicious meal. You can also rent a pedal boat at the beach.
We drive via the port town of Georgioupoli to the small village of Alikambos, where you can visit the Dourakis vineyard. It's a great opportunity to experience how wine is made. You can also enjoy local dishes here. Just be aware that "don't drink and drive," so either don't participate in the wine tasting or spit it out. You can, of course, buy a bottle for dinner in Chania.
The next section of the route is very winding; the roads are very narrow and in some places of very poor quality, sometimes even gravel. So be careful, especially on the very confusing bends, which sometimes turn into quite sharp hairpins. The scenery is truly beautiful, with many shrubs and trees. Along the road, there are several small inlets where you can stop if you want to take a photo.
We drive through the Therisso Gorge, a beautiful gorge about 6 kilometers long with stunning high cliffs, beautiful wildlife, and several small bridges. Be careful, as the road isn't very wide and it can get busy with other enthusiasts traveling on foot, by bike, quad bike, or car.
After the Therisso Gorge, it's about 6 kilometers to the end of this beautiful day in Chania, where we'll spend the night at Camping Chania or in one of the many bungalows or hotels—there are plenty of options. You'll be staying close to beautiful beaches, and Chania offers plenty to do. We'll be staying here for two days, as a tour of the eastern part of Crete is planned for day 7.
This route deserves 4**** stars because of the beautiful roads and stunning scenery. Unfortunately, some roads are of slightly poorer quality and there are fewer sights along the way than on the other routes, but that doesn't change the fact that this is a route where you can enjoy the many bends.

Crete (Greek: Κρήτη, Modern: Kríti, Ancient: Krḗtē, [krέːtεː]) is the largest and most populous of the Greek islands, the 88th largest island in the world and the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, after Sicily, Sardinia, Cyprus, and Corsica.
