RouteXpert Review The starting point is Hoogersmilde and the end point is Steenwijk. There are two sights along the way that are worth a visit.
The route is an alternation of provincial roads and small country roads through various national parks and forests.
Keep in mind that the roads in Drenthe are mainly made of cobblestones, so good suspension is a must, certainly not a route to drive on a Hard-Tail.
The Drenthe landscape is a mix of heathland and woods, so it is nice to drive in spring, summer, but also in autumn, when the leaves of the trees change color. Keep an eye out for crossing wildlife along the way.
There are several small war memorials along the route, some of them marked as POI.
At RP16 is Kamp Westerbork, which is definitely worth a visit. The museum of Camp Westerbork tells about life in the camp. Original film footage from 1944, a partially furnished barracks, a last farewell thrown from the train, a large model of the camp, a drawing of children playing and many other objects give an image and a feeling of this historic place.
Along the route you pass several Drenthe villages with cafes, restaurants and snack bars where you can take a break and have lunch.
A nice route that I rate with 3 stars.
