This beautiful ride of about 300km starts at the Shell gas station on the Larserdreef in Lelystad, you can fill up your tank here, have another cup of coffee and buy something to drink and eat for the road. The end point is at the McDonalds in Lelystad.

You drive on a mix of provincial and local roads (all paved). You drive through heathland, forests, over dikes along the river IJssel, the Hoge Veluwe, Sallandse Heuvelrug and Posbank. Enough bends to enjoy. There is a ferry in the route.

Along the route there are a number of options to take a break or to visit sights, such as the Deelen aviation museum where you can learn about the air war 1940-1945, with lifelike dioramas, special objects and many photos. In the Netherlands alone, some 7,500 aircraft crashed in the Second World War. Flying clothing, navigation equipment, aircraft armour, excavated aircraft wrecks, a reconstructed V1 and a restored Auster are reminders of a cruel air war. Until 1995, Deelen was a military airfield.

Or at Teuge airfield, a nice area to stop for lunch while watching sports planes, gliders and parachutists. At the airfield there is also an Iljuschin IL-18 airfield that has been converted into a hotel and a North American fighter plane F-86F Sabre at the Skydeck.

You can consider a visit to Staverden estate, when you enter Staverden estate, you immediately experience a special atmosphere. There is space and peace, but also style and class. The combination of rich history, characteristic buildings, beautiful gardens and the presence of white peacocks, make this location a unique experience.

Drive through the Veluwezoom National Park with the Posbank. Enjoy the beautiful winding roads and beautiful nature. Drive quietly, take into account others and the animals that can spontaneously cross. Definitely stop for a drink and to enjoy the beautiful view. Please note that this Park is closed to motorized traffic on weekends and after sunset, so you have to adjust the route and follow the N785 to RP18, where you rejoin the route, you have to skip four route points.

Nature reserve de Holterberg is a hilly area that is part of the National Park Sallandse Heuvelrug. The Holterberg owes its name to the Overijssel village of Holten that lies to the south of this area. In the north, this area borders the Haarlerberg and Noetselerberg. This nature reserve includes many heathlands that are alternated with extensive (coniferous) forests. You drive through a beautiful nature reserve here, keep to the speed limit and take others into account and enjoy nature. There are several restaurants on the Holterberg where you can plan a lunch and there is a nature museum.


I like to ride this in the fall, because of the beautiful colors and I prefer to ride it during the week, because it is very busy at the weekend and parts of the route are closed.
