Quite soon, the Princess Margriet Barracks lie on our right. This Army base borders one of the largest training areas at the Ministry of Defence's disposal. For the next thirty minutes, we drive entirely alongside and through military terrain. With an area of fifty square kilometers, the Artillery Shooting Range 't Harde (ASK), as this area is called, is truly a large site. Fortunately for us, riding here is by no means a punishment. We meander pleasantly through the woods and soon approach our first MotoPlusPoint. Just past the Lieutenant Colonel Tonnet Barracks lies Brasserie de Woldberg, our first stop. Here, on the edge of the shooting range, we can enjoy a cup of coffee. If you ride this route on a weekday, it is quite possible that you will hear some artillery fire.
Between 't Harde and Nunspeet, we continue driving through beautiful nature and enjoying the lovely small roads. It is only near Nunspeet that the ASK is definitively behind us! It is an impressive thought how vast this defense site is. In the Leuvenumse Bos, you once again get a good impression of how beautiful the Veluwe is. This beautiful road invites you to really push the limits, and that is exactly what we do! Naturally, it doesn't take long before we pass the third barracks. The General Spoor Barracks in Ermelo is the home base of the 400 Medical Battalion, the only operational medical battalion in the Army. The Royal Military School (KMS) is also located here, meaning there is a chance you might see soldiers in training marching along the road.
At the end of the road, we pass the first air force base. Air Operations Control Station (AOCS) Nieuw Milligen is where the Dutch part of NATO airspace is secured. This location was particularly interesting during the NATO summit last July. Near the base, on the roundabout, stands a beautiful Royal Netherlands Marechaussee vehicle, demonstrating once again just how present Defence actually is in this region. Defence is also stationed on the grounds next to the roundabout with the Foreign Missions Brigade and the Armed Forces and Operational Support Brigade. For us, this is merely a reason to drive an extra lap around the roundabout. The route continues towards Apeldoorn, where we pass the King Willem III Barracks. This is the training centre for the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. The Hoge Veluwe National Park is known for its beautiful nature and the Kröller-Müller Museum. Exploring this area by motorcycle is prohibited, but the roads that take us around the park are no less beautiful for it! Along this nature reserve lie two more locations in line with the defense theme of this route. At the beginning, we already passed the ASK; here we find the Infantry Shooting Range (ISK). Located on this site is a training village (named Oostdorp) where Army infantry troops can conduct exercises in built-up areas. On the other side of the national park is Deelen Air Base, which is primarily used for exercises involving helicopters, the Air Mobile Brigade, and special units. Additionally, the museum you drive past is certainly worth a stop!
Next, the route takes us to the next province: North Brabant. The change of region is immediately visible in the scenery. Whereas the Triumph was mostly crawling through the woods like a tiger in Gelderland, it can now sprint through the meadows. A welcome change and certainly a tribute to the beautiful variety the Netherlands has to offer in terms of nature. The banks of the Meuse are followed past Batenburg Castle, before crossing the water. In Zeeland, it is time for the second MotoPlusPoint: Herberg D'n Brouwer. Here, you can fill your stomach for the final kilometers of this tour.
Volkel Air Base marks the end of this route and the 'roundabout art' is certainly impressive! Together with AOCS in Nieuw
At Milligen (and the unvisited Leeuwarden Air Base), the Air Combat Command is formed. Here, the F35 fighter jets are standing ready for the so-called Quick Reaction Alert. When something serious is happening in our airspace, these are the heroes who keep us safe. After flying for just under four hours, the defense fun is over!

De Hoge Veluwe National Park
About this region
De Hoge Veluwe National Park is a Dutch national park in the province of Gelderland near the cities of Ede, Wageningen, Arnhem and Apeldoorn. It is approximately 55 km2 (14,000 acres; 21 sq mi) in area, consisting of heathlands, sand dunes, and woodlands. It is situated in the Veluwe, the area of the largest terminal moraine in the Netherlands. Most of the landscape of the park and the Veluwe was created during the last Ice Age. The alternating sand dune areas and heathlands may have been caused by human utilization of the surrounding lands. The park forms one of the largest continuous nature reserves in the Netherlands.

The 10 most beautiful car and motorcycle routes in the Netherlands
These 10 routes in the Netherlands have been carefully selected, checked and made equal for TomTom, Garmin and MyRoute-app Navigation by a MyRoute-app RouteXpert. The 10 most beautiful motorcycle and car routes in the Netherlands are always a snapshot, and a personal opinion of the reviewer. This does not alter the fact that every lover of beautiful roads and interesting sights will enjoy these routes.
The ten routes are spread over 10 provinces, we only skipped Flevoland and South Holland. Interesting routes can also be found in the MyRoute app RouteXpert library, but we still want to stick to the 10 most beautiful and not the 12 most beautiful.
Enjoy the many fortresses and castles that are included in the routes, such as Fort Veldhuis in North Holland. But also take a look at the route southeast of Nijmegen and visit the impressive Canadian War Cemetery and Memorial. The route 'Overijssel in bird's eye view' includes the oldest house in the Netherlands and the route along the IJssel is probably the most beautiful piece of asphalt in the Netherlands.
This way there is something for everyone in this route collection. If you do not agree with these 10 routes, please send us an e-mail, indicate which route(s) should be removed and which route you would like to see instead. Maybe your route will be included in this collection of the 10 most beautiful routes in the Netherlands!
