Route Summary
As the name suggests, a tour through the province of Overijssel.

This is the 28th in a series of 43 Endangered ANWB routes. These were published in the Promotors between April 2015 and September 2016.

Starting point: Café 't Hof van Colmschate, Colmschate
End point: Dad and Mom Schalkhaar, Schalkhaar

I awarded this route 3 ★★★ stars because the roads are good and varied, the landscape scores very well with its Salland hills, forests and open land, and there are attractive stops along the way such as the Sallandse Heuvelrug and the old Station.

RouteXpert Review
This route winds between the IJssel and the Vecht through the heart of Salland – a typical Dutch landscape full of peace, space and history. You ride along country roads, farms, vast heathlands and charming villages. Ideal for a relaxed day of motorcycling in which you keep the pace low and your visor open. This is the Overijssel that will cheer up your motorcycling heart. Discover it for yourself, bend after bend.

You start at the Tour Start Point; Café 't Hof van Colmschate. A friendly village café where the coffee is ready and you immediately feel like you've ended up in the real Salland. You leave the built-up area and drive via Lettele to Heeten. Here the landscape begins to unfold - with wide fields, forest edges and straight dike roads. A little further on you reach the edge of the Sallandse Heuvelrug, marked as a Tour Info Point. This is one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the eastern Netherlands, with rolling heathlands, sandy paths and views towards the Veluwe. You meander between Holten and Nijverdal and feel the wind through your helmet as you ride over the flanks of the ridge. Time seems to stand still here for a moment. You head for Hellendoorn, where the route bends north towards Den Ham and then runs via Ommen to Dalfsen. There you will find the atmospheric Tour Pauze Punt; The old station. A characteristic station building from 1903, now a Grand Café where you can have lunch between old tracks and stained glass windows. Take your time, this is one of those places where your motorcycle boots will naturally stay on the ground a little longer.
After Dalfsen the route makes an arc via Heino, Wijhe and Olst. You cross small hamlets, pass rows of pollard willows and follow roads that are made for relaxed motorcycling. In Diepenveen you can refuel at the Tour Fuel Point; AVIA De Keur – a modern pump with service and a shop for on the road. The route ends at the Tour End Point; Pa en Ma Schalkhaar, a charming café where you can sit down for a coffee or a daily special. Whether you ride alone or with a group, it feels like coming home here. Your engine stops for a moment, but your head doesn't.

The Salland Route is a motorcycle tour that combines peace and beauty with good asphalt and nice stops. Ideal for a day of touring without haste. The roads are good, the landscape is typically Dutch but surprisingly varied, and the catering along the way is warm and welcoming. This route proves that you don't have to go abroad for a rich motorcycle experience. Start your engine, breathe in - and discover Salland at its best.
