RouteXpert Review
This is day 2 of 20 as we travel from Los Angeles in California to Washington DC.
Leaving our hotel in Ventura we head into the Los Padres riding Route 33(RP6). The Ventura-Maricopa Highway (California Route 33), and the section known as Jacinto Reyes Scenic Byway (in honor of the first Hispanic National Forest Ranger), must have been specifically created for motorcyclists. Either that, or motorbikes were created in anticipation of this roadway: Motorcycles and Route 33 are a marriage made in scenic-riding, motorbike heaven. This is curve after curve with the mountains surrounding your every move.
As we leave the mountains the flat openess of California lays before us.
After heading North West we arrrive in Santa Maria for a tyre kick at Santa Maria Harley Davidson (RP11) and then it is back onto the Pacific Coast Highway.
At Morrow Bay the Pacific Ocean joins us on our left hand said as we ride through Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. It is one of the most astoundingly scenic roads in the world, meant to be traversed slowly, while gasping at the mountains, towering trees, expansive beaches and endless sky as we make our way to Monterey.
Once in Monterey we can take some time to visit Canery Row with its picturesque charm and colorful history, all situated on the old sardine canning factories.
The final leg of our day is a short 40 mile ride up the 101 to Gilroy where we bed down for the evening
