RouteXpert Review
You leave in Montespertoli where you can rent a holiday home (airbnb). This ride takes you along smaller roads to Florence to visit extensively. You drive via San Casciano in Val di Pesa where you cross the 'superstrada Firenze-Siena'. In Mercatale you drive north. After 35 km you cross the A1 'autostrade del sole' and you are in Firenze.Just before entering the center of Firenze, you can visit the San Miniato al Monte. The Basilica di San Miniato al Monte is beautiful inside and out. It is also the oldest of all the churches in Firenze. At the time of Charlemagne there was already a church on this site, but the current one was built between the 11th and 13th centuries. Take a look at the beautiful marble façade in the Protorenaissance style and watch for the eagle on the top. Inside, the variety of beauty stands out. The floor contains very beautiful inlay with images of animals. The raised choir is also beautifully finished in marble. The choir is located above the crypt from the 11th century. In the crypt lies the body of Saint Minias, a martyr after whom the church is named. You can also look at frescoes of saints here, which are probably the oldest frescoes in Florence. They date from the early 13th century.
In Firenze you are not allowed to enter the center by motorcycle. Only vehicles with a 'special permit' have access. This applies to all major cities in Italy.
The city is one of the most famous cultural cities in Europe. It is the cradle of the Renaissance. Many famous artists, scientists, writers and other historical people have lived or were born here. Examples include Leonardo De Vinci, Michelangelo and Galileo Galilei. Nowadays, Firenze is the city you must visit when you are in Tuscany. The city is bursting with beautiful squares, streets, bridges and palaces.
If you want to visit the city, monuments, museums ..., it is best to buy a city pass. Highlights of Florence: Ponte Vecchio - The Uffizi Museum with Michelangelo - Basilica Santa Croce - Duomo Santa Maria del Fiore - Santa Maria Novella - Palazzo Pitti: the largest palace in Firenze - Battistero di San Giovanni - Palazzo Strozzi.
At the viewpoint on the Piazzale Michelangelo you get a particularly beautiful panoramic view of Firenze. In good weather it is absolutely advisable to do the climb. The statue, Michelangelo's David, that you see here is a copy. The real one is in the Galleria del Accademia.
Via Mosciano, San Vincenzo a Torri you will return to Montespertoli.
This ride gets 5 stars. The smaller and quiet roads to Firenze are very good. Some beautiful views during the ride on the characteristic landscape of Tuscany will take you to Firenze. Firenze has a huge variety of sights. The palazzi, the churches, the museums, you name it: they are all beautiful and well worth a visit.
