RouteXpert Review
Touring the heart of Zeeland is a feast for the senses. This route takes you straight through South Beveland and Walcheren, through fruit-growing villages, along inlets, dikes, and historic towns. You're not just riding through the countryside; you're riding through the soul of Zeeland. Quiet roads, impressive views, and charming villages alternate perfectly. This route is anything but boring—it's a journey of discovery.

You'll depart from the charming Zeeland Rose Garden in Kats, a colorful oasis of fragrance and tranquility. Soon, you'll leave the flowering flowerbeds behind and travel along country lanes to Goes. There, you'll discover a vibrant city full of history, canals, and charming terraces. It's the first of many charming places today. Following the dike along the Oosterschelde estuary, you'll reach the charming town of Wemeldinge, with its marina, narrow streets, and historic windmills. Then, continue towards Kapelle, the "blossom village," where you'll be surrounded by orchards. Here, you'll experience the rural tranquility so characteristic of inland Zeeland. After a loop past 's-Heerenhoek and the industrial area around Nieuwdorp, you'll head along a playful route to Oost-Souburg. The city of Vlissingen is just around the corner, and you'll notice it in the changing streetscape. For a hearty break, stop at Frituur 't Stadhuis, a local favorite with good old-fashioned fries. Time to recharge for the second part.
You climb towards Koudekerke and then on to Middelburg. Here, you can breathe history. Monumental buildings, narrow streets, and the scent of the Dutch East India Company still lingers in the air. Then you drive on to picturesque Veere, where time seems to stand still. The harbor, town hall, and cobblestone streets are a delight to drive through. You make a wide turn towards Kamperland, a lively village near the coast, where you refuel at the AVIA XPress. Then you head north towards Colijnsplaat, where the impressive Houen Jongens! Monument reminds you of how Zeeland fought against the water. It's a wonderful place to pause and reflect on the past.
You return to the Zeeland Rose Garden, the starting point of your ride, where you can end the day with a fitting lunch, high tea or simply a delicious glass of soda among the blooming roses.

The Midden Zeeland route lets you experience Zeeland in all its diversity. You'll ride through blossom-filled villages, harbor towns, and along the traces of the battle against the water. The combination of nature, culture, and good roads makes this ride an absolute must. For motorcyclists who appreciate peace, atmosphere, and history, this is a fantastic day out. Park your bike, take off your gloves, and enjoy a cup of coffee among the roses. It doesn't get any better than this.

About this region
Zeeland is the westernmost and least populous province of the Netherlands. The province, located in the south-west of the country, borders North Brabant to the east, South Holland to the north, and the country of Belgium to the south and west. It consists of a number of islands and peninsulas (hence its name, meaning "Sealand") and a strip bordering the Flemish provinces of East and West Flanders. Its capital is Middelburg with a population of 48,544 as of November 2019, the largest municipality in Zeeland is Terneuzen (pop. 54,589). Zeeland has two seaports: Vlissingen and Terneuzen. Its area is 2,934 square kilometres (1,130 sq mi), of which 1,151 square kilometres (440 sq mi) is water, and it has a population of 383,689 as of November 2019.
Large parts of Zeeland are below sea level. The last great flooding of the area was in 1953. Tourism is an important economic activity. In the summer, its beaches make it a popular destination for tourists, especially German tourists. In some areas, the population can be two to four times higher during the high summer season. The coat of arms of Zeeland shows a lion half-emerged from water, and the text luctor et emergo (Latin for "I struggle and emerge"). The country of New Zealand was named after Zeeland after it was sighted by Dutch explorer Abel Tasman.
