RouteXpert Review
Cody, who likes to brag about the wild image of the wild west, you really feel like a cowboy on the prairie. The city is named after William Frederick Cody, better known as Buffalo Bill. He was also one of the pioneers of the Wild West shows, who still play an important role in the city today. The Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody houses five museums and keeps the wild west alive. You will find everything about the life and the wild west shows of Buffalo Bill Cody. Furthermore, there are many weapons on display and you see art from cowboys and Indians. The Old Trail Town is also worth a visit, this "old town" consists of restored historic buildings. From June to September, a real 'wild-west shoot-out' is simulated in the evening (except on Sundays) at the Irma Hotel. On your way to Cody you should definitely visit the picturesque Shell Canyon, where you can visit Shell Falls. This is a waterfall in the Bighorn National Forest on Shell Creek, about halfway between Shell Canyon and a few miles upstream from the town of Shell in northeastern Wyoming. The falls are 120 feet (36 meters) high. From the parking lot and the interpretive center one can see the access to the Cambrian flat sandstone, about 550 million years old, resting on 2.9 billion year old Precambric rocks - some of the oldest rocks on earth. You can also see 'Copman's Tomb', a huge limestone promontory in the north. You will also stop several times along the way to enjoy the view and to take pictures.
In this 4-star route you drive on beautiful good roads, a stop at Shell Falls and the Buffalo Bill Memorial you should definitely do.
History:
Cody is a small town near the eastern entrance to Yellowstone National Park. It has become a typical 'resort city' for the many tourist attractions in the area. Traditionally it was a true Wild West town, founded in the nineteenth century. The inhabitants still like to rave with that wild image. The city is named after Buffalo Bill, whose real name was William Frederick Cody. He financed irrigation systems, mines and starting businesses of friends. He was also one of the pioneers of the Wild West shows, who still play an important role in the city today. The people of Cody think back with love to this man and this time, which can be seen in the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, for example.
