The gigantic "Radio telescope Effelsberg" was for a long time (until 2000) the largest, fully movable radio telescope in the world with an impressive diameter of 100 meters!
The telescope was built between 1968 and 1971 and was commissioned in 1972 by the Max Plack institute for radio astronomy in Bonn. Because a radio telescope is a very sensitive instrument, it is remote and not on a through road. From the car park it is about a 15 minute walk to the telescope and the visitor center. The walk to it is beautiful and leads over a path with information boards about our planetary system.
It is well worth a visit to this impressive telescope. Only when you see the telescope and come closer you realize how gigantic it is.
Because I have driven this route myself, this route gets 5 stars.
