We travelled to the Premier Inn hotel at Gloucester Quay from our home in Devon and stayed for two nights allowing us an early start for a full days ride of about 170 miles and 6 hrs without stops (it took us 10 hrs with stops). We used this route as a starter for our 8 day tour which included 6 days in Wales in September 2018. This is a beautiful route with some small lanes that even a novice could ride. It also visits the Farm shop owned by Jeremy Clarkson and known as the Diddly Squat Farm Shop. Excellent landscape and very good roads and attractions earn the route 4**** stars.

The Beacon at Burton Dassett Hills
After lunch, there are more beautiful roads and villages leading to Broadway Tower. The strange tower was designed by the famous landscape gardener, Capability Brown for the 6th Earl of Coventry, George William and was completed in 1798. Although this route offers great views from many locations, by far, the best are to be had from Burton Dassett Country Park at the easternmost point of this route. On a clear day, you can see as far as Coventry, some 20 miles away.
The prehistoric site of the Rollright Stones are 4000 years old. The complex consists of three main elements, The King's Men stone circle, the Whispering Knights and the King Stone. Of the three monuments, the King’s Men stone circle is 20m from the road; the Whispering Knights burial chamber 500m from the stone circle; and the King Stone, 30m away on the opposite side of the road. A small access charge of £2 per adult id payable.
The infamous Diddly Squat Farm Shop, owned by the TV star Jeremy Clarkson is next, some of the farm shop products include: Bee juice (honey), Jeremy's Hot seed beer mustard and Scented candles the most popular being: This smells like my bollocks! If you don't fancy stopping just sail past.
The Roman villa at North Leigh is a good place for those that enjoy Roman history. The Roman villa is at the end of a footpath about 300M away and there is free parking for motorcycles.
Riding over the River Windrush and through the beautiful and historic wool town of Burford takes you to the village of Bibury. Situated on both sides of the river Coln, this ancient village is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. Described as; "The most beautiful village in England" by artist and craftsman William Morris when he visited in the 19c. We decided to stop here to fully take in it's beauty and have a coffee and ice cream (vanilla with stem ginger - yum yum).
The route now takes you North of Cirencester, through more lovely countryside and villages and back to the hotel at Gloucester Quay. There are no fast roads or big sweeping bends on this route, the enjoyment comes from the sheer beauty of the area and great sights along the way.
As with all MRA routes, this one can be adapted to suit your needs. Once you have chosen a route and added it to your library, you may wish to change the start and finish positions or add extra waypoints, or even reverse or split the route. This is easily done when you have a Gold Membership of MyRoute-app and then by using the Gold Toolkit.
After reversing the direction of a route, it is advisable to check that it is still accurate, some waypoints may be on dual carriageways or on one way streets which will affect the route.
Enjoy

5 days through Wales on roads less travelled
As the title suggests, this is a 5 day tour through Wales on 'roads less travelled'. Each daily route has spectacular scenery through sometimes, dramatic landscapes. The tour visits some of Wales' well known sights and some not so well known. It travels across open moorland, deep valleys, the mountains of Snowdonia National Park and the beautiful countryside and coast. You will travel over historic bridges and see historic buildings and sights. This truly is an adventurous tour that I am certain you will enjoy.
