Route Summary
Day 7 of an 8 day tour on the Greek island of Crete.

Motorcycling in Crete is a real pleasure, this island has many beautiful winding roads with thousands of bends, idyllic villages, beautiful views of the sea, bays, beautiful passes and ravines.

The locals are very hospitable. The roads are decent, but it is recommended to rent an All- or Off Road motorcycle, as there are also many bad roads with potholes and unpaved areas.

On the very tourist island there are many hotels, especially along the coast, there are also B&B and a number of campsites. In this tour we will assume camping accommodation.

The routes can be driven by motorcycle, car or quads and there are several rental companies in Crete where you can rent All Road, Custom, Quads, Buggies, scooters and cars. Prices for the rental of a motorcycle for a week are between 280 and 900 euros, depending on the model.

Renting from Eurodriver has the advantage that they can deliver your motorcycle anywhere so you can already get on your motorcycle at the airport and start the journey.

RouteXpert Review
On Day 7 we make a tour of the Eastern part of Crete, starting and ending in Chania. This day we will drive many beautiful winding roads with beautiful panoramas. We will stop at a beautiful beach, a gorge and vineyard.

The first part we drive along the coast but we don't see much of it because this road takes us through the villages to the Gonia Odigitria Monastery (RP5), also known as Lady of the Angels Monastery of Gonia. A beautiful monastery with a rich history and definitely worth a visit.

We drive a short way on the Northern Cretan Highway (RP9) along the coast where you have a beautiful view of the sea, at Kissamou we leave the Northern Cretan Highway again to continue the drive on beautiful back roads. These roads are narrow with many curves so enjoy. Pay attention because sometimes the quality of the road surface is not so good and gravel can lie on the road surface.

Along the route are a number of small vantage points where you can stop briefly to take a photo and enjoy the view, such as at RP11 and RP14. At RP14 you can also have a drink and enjoy the view from the terrace at Petroula's Bar.

Lunch is planned in the small village of Elos (RP16) where you can choose from several nice restaurants. Via a beautiful winding road over the mountains we drive to the coast where we can stop and enjoy the beautiful beach Pachia Ammos Beach (RP19), beautiful large beach, ideal to stop and relax and have a drink. Parking on the left.

After a well deserved break on the beach we drive to RP21, the Castle of Selinos, today only a few ruins of the castle have been preserved, most of which date from Turkish rule. The fort was almost square. It consisted of two towers on the south side and one on the north side. Like all fortresses, there were cantonments, civil servants' residences, a church, and small water tanks. These two towers are still visible among the rest of the ruins of Selinos Castle. Please note here for TomTom drivers because the route is not the same as the Here route.

We drive back to the mountains and the roads wind up again wonderfully with beautiful panoramas after every (hairpin) bend. At RP28, enthusiasts can take a hike through the Agia Irini gorge, which is 7.5 km long, so maybe taking a little bit of some nice photos is more than enough for most. If you want to hike the entire canyon, there is an option to take a taxi back to your starting point at the end. Allow at least 3 hours for this tour.

After another 35 kilometers of great steering we arrive at the Manousakis Winery (RP30), a great opportunity to experience how wine is made. You can also eat local dishes here. Please don't drink and drive, so whether or not to participate in the wine tasting or spitting. Pay attention on departure because Here and Tom Tom disagree. After this beautiful end of the day it is still 18 kilometers to the campsite in Chania.

This route is worth 4 **** Stars because of the beautiful roads, beautiful nature, unfortunately some roads are of a poorer quality and there are slightly less sights on the way than on the other routes, but it does not alter the fact that this is a route where as a rider you can enjoy the many bends.
