Route Summary

RouteXpert Review
This route in Malaysia is the first day of a 3-day ride that is part of the “1000 Corners Malaysia”, a round trip of approximately 650km that starts and ends in Kuala Lumpur and takes you through the Pahang State Hills. There is a lot to see and do along the route, so planning a few extra days is well worth it. This day we drive about 250 kilometers.

We avoid the highways and dirt roads as much as possible to make it interesting and to keep it suitable for almost any type of motorcycle (rider). The adventurers among us can easily deviate from the route and drive parts off-road.

If you have little time, you can also drive the route in one or two days, but then you have to choose to take the highways. The highways in Malaysia are toll roads and you cannot pay with cash, but there are several options such as a Pre Paid Touch 'n Go Card, which can also be used for public transport, parking and some shops also accept the card.

There are several places in Kuala Lumpur where you can rent a motorbike (scooter). This ride starts with Malaysian Motorcycle Getaways Tours and Rentals, they also provide organized motorcycle tours in addition to rental (link in the review).

We leave the city to drive north, there are several options depending on your preference. You can drive via the North-South Highway E1 / AH2 Lebhuraya Utara-Selatan, follow the green traffic signs to the highway from RP2. Another option is 1 Jalan Kuala Lumpur Ipoh, turn left at RP4 for this. Our route follows the B23 and B57.

Just outside the city we drive around the Empangan Batu reservoir (RP5) and through the Hutlista Recreational Park, where you can enjoy the beautiful nature. There are a number of parking spaces along the route where you can stop to rest, take beautiful pictures, walk or cool yourself down in a river. At RP7 it is definitely worth stopping for the waterfalls Ulu Yam Waterfall and Sungai Tua Waterfall. There are several parking bays, including one specifically for motorcycles.

After the park we drive on a nice winding road with beautiful forests on both sides to RP8 where we turn up the 1 Jalan Kuala Lumpur Ipoh to drive to Bidor (RP11) where we stop for a lunch break in one of the many restaurants.

After lunch we drive further towards Cameron Highlands, from RP12 it is really enjoyable with a very winding road through a beautiful green environment. We drive through a kind of valley with mountains on both sides, the view is very beautiful.

At RP14 you can stop at Agro Highlands Strawberry Farm & Cafe for something to drink and eat, this is also possible at RP15 at the Cameron Valley Tea House. There are also shops here to buy tea and souvenirs.

You are now driving in the Cameron Highlands, an area known for its tea plantations. Along the route you have a beautiful view of these beautiful green plantations. There are also options to stop and visit along the way. Along this beautiful winding road there are several parking places where you can stop briefly to take a photo.

We are approaching the end of our trip in Tanah Rata (RP23), where we spend the night in one of the many hotels, here you will notice that you have ended up in a tourist area, because there are many hotels, restaurants, bars and shops.
The end point of this beautiful ride is the Cameron Highlands at about 1500 meters above sea level, with a pleasant climate. Fortunately it doesn't get really cold. Temperatures are usually around 20-25 degrees. A pleasant change during your trip through the tropics. The tea plantations are the absolute highlight of this area, but due to the fertile farmland the Cameron Highlands have much more to offer. You can check in at the hotel or drive a little further to visit the Time Tunnel Museum (RP19), Kea Farm Rose Center (RP20), Tringkap Bee farm (RP21) or the Boh Thea Plantantion (RP22).
The Cameron Tringkap Bee Farm has a mini bee museum where people can learn more about the benefits of honey and how honey is produced. You can also buy various honey products here.

The BOH Tea Plantantion is home to BOH's first tea factory, the largest and oldest tea garden. The breathtaking journey to the tea center for a sip of a delicate, rich and freshly brewed tea is a satisfying journey for any tea lover. BOH Tea Plantation is a must visit place when in Cameron Highlands. Picturesque, calm and cool fresh air! The drive to the BOH tea plantation is quite an adventure in itself. Boh Tea Plantation has planted a total of 8,000 hectares with tea. The largest tea plantation in Southeast Asia. The road is narrow and winding.

For enthusiasts, it is certainly worth planning an extra day in this beautiful area.

After this beautiful day we spend the night in one of the many hotels in Tanah Rata Cameron Highlands.
