RouteXpert Review You start the ride in Noord-Sleen at Restaurant Wielens, an atmospheric place where the coffee is fresh and the stories are rich. Soon you turn the first bends towards Odoornerveen, where you explore the open Drenthe landscape. The roads wind through forests and along canals, while the scent of pine trees wafts into your helmet. The first real stop is at the dolmens D17 and D18 in Rolde. Here you come face to face with the past: burial monuments that were built thousands of years ago by the Funnel Beaker people. After a short photo stop you continue along the Drouwenerveld, where the Hondsrug shows itself at its most beautiful. Heathlands and winding forest roads alternate and the quiet paths ensure a wonderful riding rhythm. Halfway along the route, Jimm's in Gieten is a perfect break. Whether you fancy a hearty lunch or a cup of coffee, here you can not only refuel yourself, but also your engine. Then you travel deeper into the Drenthe landscape and pass Wildlands Adventure Zoo in Emmen, a unique piece of adventure on the route. A short stop here gives you the chance to spot the wild animals before you continue. Not much later you reach Hunebed D30 near Exloo, a beautifully hidden prehistoric monument in the middle of the forest. The peace here is almost tangible. After this historical stopover, the route continues towards the Noordbargerbos, an atmospheric nature reserve with winding roads and beautiful vistas.
The last kilometers take you through the Valtherbos and the edge of Emmen to the end point at Wielens in Noord-Sleen. Here you can enjoy an impressive ride, with a drink in your hand and a smile on your face.
