Route Summary
A beautiful tour in one of my favorite areas of Germany; the Harz.

This trip has a good mix of scenery and lots of bends.

The scenery is beautiful and you can visit small German villages where you can stop and enjoy German cuisine.

Please note that many restaurants are closed between 2pm and 5pm, especially on Sundays.

I rate this route with 4 stars.

RouteXpert Review
In 2018 I went to the Harz for the 4th time with friends.

This area is one of my favourite areas in Germany to drive, there are many beautiful roads and you drive through a stunning landscape.

There are several campsites and hotels, so staying overnight is no problem. We stayed at a campsite in Osterode am Harz, at the foot of the Harz mountains. A family campsite, but we are welcome guests.

The quality of the roads in Harz is very good and you can ride beautiful tours, there are roads for every type of motorcyclist, from inexperienced to real curve knights. Note that it can be busy, especially in the weekend and on the usual holidays such as Easter, Pentecost and Ascension Day. And watch your speed because there are a lot of checks.

There are many beautiful villages and towns with restaurants and ice cream parlors. Restaurants are often closed between 2 and 5 pm, so plan your stops well.

Lunch is planned at Scharfenstein Castle in Thuringia with over 800-year-old walls, medieval flair and an impressive view of the Leinetal. The reconstructed Scharfenstein Castle in Thuringia has become a popular destination in recent years. The historic property of the city of Leinefelde-Worbis has been extensively renovated and rebuilt since 2006 and now offers visitors a café with a large panoramic terrace, guided tours, events and, since autumn 2018, a 'whisky experience centre'. Within the old walls of the castle, Number Nine Spirituosen Manufaktur GmbH demonstrates the production of whisky in a show distillery, offers tastings of various types and provides information about the many facets of whisky.

At the Rappbodetalsperre the longest suspension bridge (Titan RT) in the world was built and is definitely worth a visit, but not at the weekend when it is very busy. The Titan RT with a length of 458 meters spans the valley next to the Rappbode Dam at a height of about 100 meters.

The Sonnenstein Skywalk near Holungen is a fantastic vantage point. At a height of 486 metres, a unique panorama opens up: on a clear day, you can look from the Harz Mountains over the Kyffhäuser and Ohm Mountains to the Golden Mark. Picturesque sunsets are guaranteed here on many evenings throughout the year. The steel and glass construction rises 14 metres above the cliffs and promises thrills with breathtaking views of nature.

This route has many different types of roads in it and runs through Harz, Hessen, Thuringen and Braunlage. Total length is about 330 kilometers and including several stops we took almost 10 hours.

About this region
Bremerhaven (German pronunciation: [ˌbʁeːmɐˈhaːfn̩] (listen), lit. 'Bremener Harbour', Low German: Bremerhoben) is a city at the seaport of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, a state of the Federal Republic of Germany.
It forms a semi-enclave in the state of Lower Saxony and is located at the mouth of the Weser on its eastern bank, opposite the town of Nordenham. Though a relatively new city, it has a long history as a trade port and today is one of the most important German ports, playing a role in Germany's trade.
Wesermünde was a neighboring city created in 1924 through the merger of Geestemünde and Lehe. In 1939, Bremerhaven was incorporated into Wesermünde, but in 1947 the cities were collectively renamed as Bremerhaven and returned to the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.
