Route Summary
This is the first of 13 routes in Morocco, a circular route that goes south to Agadir and then ends in Ceuta
This route passes through rich fertile countryside and mountain valleys, with typical Mediterranean landscapes, while heading towards the Rif mountains to visit the unique blue city of Chefchaouen, the route continues towards Fes the oldest imperial city in Morocco The conditions of the Road surfaces are generally good, but it is not uncommon to find potholes even on main roads. Be careful in the cities because the traffic is very chaotic. I have awarded this route with 4 stars because of the beautiful landscape and amazing attractions.

RouteXpert Review
With this itinerary you discover a different Morocco from the one you normally see in photos on the internet, no deserts or even dromedaries, but roads that cross green and flowery pastures, especially in spring. The first city you will visit is Chefchaouen, which will amaze visitors with its blue medina.

Chefchaouen

The city was founded in 1471. Its original population was mainly composed of Andalusian exiles, both Muslims and Jews, which is why the old part of the city has a very similar appearance to that of Andalusian towns, with small streets with an irregular layout. Chefchaouen sits on a small valley. The oldest part of the city grows up the mountain, and at the highest point are the Ras al-Ma springs. The center of the city is the Uta al-Hamman square, where the fortress and a mosque with an octagonal base tower are located. Chefchaouen is called the blue city, because the walls of the streets of the medina are mainly blue, the reason for this color seems to be purely religious, because blue recalls the color of the sky and paradise, but there are contradictory stories about its origins . I stayed in the Hotel Loubar, with closed parking for motorbikes and close enough to the medina to be reached on foot (poor breakfast)

The route ends in Fes, one of the imperial cities of Morocco, where it will be possible to admire the famous ceramic craftsmanship or the much-photographed leather tannery.

Fez

Fes is the first imperial city of Morocco, it contains thirteen centuries of Moroccan history, a visit to the medina is strongly recommended, it is recommended to take a tourist guide to visit the medina, because it has many avenues and it is very easy to get lost. The leather tannery is very characteristic and can be visited either by walking through the leather preparation and coloring tanks or from above from the numerous tannery shops that overlook the tanks. For those traveling by motorbike it is recommended to take a hotel outside the medina, in the new city and perhaps take a taxi to the old city, which is also very cheap. I stayed at Riad Mimousa, a hotel with an indoor place for motorbike and very well looked after, good breakfast.

IMPORTANT

If Morocco is NOT included in the Green Card you will need to take out insurance for the vehicle you will use for the entire time you intend to spend in Morocco, it is recommended to purchase a data SIM locally, normally local tobacconists have SIMs and will help you set up the phone to use whatsapp with your phone number.
