On day 9, we leave Spain and head to Bragança, Portugal. You'll drive through two beautiful nature parks, where you can enjoy stunning panoramas, scenery, and winding roads along the way.
The Sierra de la Culebra, a 95-kilometer-long, regular mountain range of medium height, forms a natural border with the Portuguese region of Tras os Montes to the west. Its slopes are forested and occasionally ravaged by forest fires. The peaks of the range are often snow-capped in winter and feature unusual-looking, rocky quartzite outcrops.
A nice town to visit is Puebla de Sanabria, for some sightseeing and perhaps lunch in one of the cafes or restaurants
At the border with Portugal, we enter Montesinho National Park. This park is located in the northwestern region of Portugal, near Bragança, and is a beautiful nature reserve with several small towns such as Franca, Meixedo, Carragosa, and Vinhais. These require a slight detour, but they are certainly lovely towns for a stroll. Hiking is also possible. The park is located in the northwest of Portugal, in the Trás-os-Montes region, and is one of the largest nature parks in Portugal. The slate and granite mountains form deep valleys, and the clear river waters flowing through them provide the perfect habitat for a wide variety of plants and animals.
The last part of the ride takes us along a beautiful road with many bends and stunning panoramas to the finish in Braganca.
Puebla de Sanabria and Castillo de los Condes de Benavente
Crossing an old bridge into little village Franca
