Each one is an adventure in itself that will take you through winding curves, breath taking natural scenery, historic landmarks, local points of interest, and fun attractions. Whether you feel like exploring caves, seeing wolves, touring historic sites, leaning into heart-pounding curves or just taking in the views, you’ll find a ride that’s exactly what you’re looking for.
This is Part 3 of the Southern Dozen and is a ride along the Places of the Past. Northeast Tennessee has an epic history - from the volunteers who saved the American Revolution, to the homes of legendary pioneers, statesmen, and even a U.S. President. This route takes you along cobblestone streets to the birthplace of Davy Crockett, past extraordinary museums, and even to a farm preserved since 1791.
It is originally an "up and down" trip along the TN-34 and visit different touristic sites and museums. To make the ride a bit more interesting I changed the ride back to Johnson City through Rocky Fork State Park, with some nice curvy mountain roads.
Interesting Route Points;
RP3; Historic Museum and Visitors Center; Jonesborough has a lot to offer and it's worthwhile to do some sightseeing and visit one of the museums. Jonesborough attracts heritage tourism because of its historical status as Tennessee's oldest town and its significant historic preservation efforts that have preserved a rich architectural fabric. The town's museum describes the local heritage of tobacco farming.
RP5 Chester Inn Historical Museum
RP9; Davy Crockett Birthplace and National Park
RP11 Andrew Johnsons (17th US President) Homestead
RP12 City Garage Car Museum City Garage Car Museum has a very diverse collection of cars from a 1914 Ford Brass T Model to a 1972 DeTomaso Pantera Sports Car
RP13 Andrew Johnsons Cemetery and Memorial
I rate this route with 4 stars because of the nice twisty roads and interesting sigh seeing options.
