Ragusa
About this collection
Although the narrow shape of southern Dalmatia doesn't lend itself well to circular tours, an attempt has been made to create a number of itineraries in the territory of the then Republic of Ragusa. During the early modern period, between the 14th and 19th centuries, Dubrovnik was the center of Ragusa, a free trading republic that successfully navigated a political path between the Ottoman and Venetian Empires. It was also among the most progressive countries of its time.
This collection consists of four tours that together cover the territory of Ragusa. Each tour covers a different direction. Southbound, it visits the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro; northwest, two tours have been planned. One tour takes you to the scenic island of Mljet; another to the island and city of Korčula, steeped in centuries-old traditions. The final tour heads northeast to the historic city of Mostar, with a visit to the famous Stari Most Bridge in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Scenically, these are very diverse routes, partly through mountains, partly along lakes, and partly across the sea, using ferry services, visiting various countries with their own unique characteristics. The areas you visit are surprisingly winding, so you won't cover many kilometers per day, but the variety and enjoyment increase accordingly.
