Route Summary
Gear up for an unforgettable day in the saddle!
We’re heading out on a scenic, high-adrenaline tour through the heart of the North Georgia mountains.
We’ll start by carving through legendary twisties on our way to Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia. From the summit, you'll get a breathtaking 360-degree view spanning four states.
Next, we’ll roll into Two Wheels of Suches, the popular motorcycle-only resort. It’s the perfect spot to soak in the community vibes on the wraparound porch and swap stories with fellow riders.
We’ll then descend into Historic Dahlonega. Take a break to wander the charming square or dive into the town’s glittering past at the Gold Museum.
Then it's time for a legendary lunch at the Boxcar Grill. This historic hidden gem is famous for its railway-themed setting and mouth watering smash burgers.
Our next stop is the world-class Atlanta Motorsports Park. Keep your eyes peeled—this is where you might get a chance to see some serious machinery in action or even hop into a high-speed kart to test your own limits on their F1-style track.
On the return leg, we’ll pass through Dahlonega once more—your chance to grab some premium coffee, handmade sweets, or that perfect souvenir.
We’ll wrap up the day back in Helen. After miles of mountain curves, it’s time for a well-deserved rest and a killer dinner in the Bavarian village to celebrate an epic day on two wheels.

This route is very satisfying, exciting and challenging at times, therefore it deserves 4 stars.

Peaks, Twists, and Gold Mines…
Get ready for a ride that perfectly balances technical challenges with relaxing scenic stretches.
We’re heading into the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains for a day of elevation changes, local history, and great food.

After fueling up and grabbing a solid breakfast, we’ll head North on Rt-75. This stretch is a fantastic warm-up that leads us toward Brasstown Bald, Georgia’s highest peak. At 4,784 feet, the 360-degree observation deck offers a literal "cloud-level" view across four states. We’ll take some time to explore the 8,000-square-foot museum and catch a short film about the mountain's unique ecosystem before we get going.

Next, we tackle the legendary Wolf Pen Gap Road (Rt-180). This is where the real fun begins. It’s narrow, technical, and incredibly twisty—a perfect workout for your cornering skills. We’ll catch our breath at the Wolf Pen Gap Store for some coffee and gas, then roll right around the corner to Two Wheels of Suches. This is a true rider’s sanctuary where the atmosphere is always centered around motorcycles, good food, and the sound of the nearby brook.

From Suches, we descend down a scenic Rt-60 into Dahlonega, the site of the first major U.S. gold rush. It’s a picturesque town with a distinct mountain vibe. Whether it’s the historic 1836 courthouse (now the Gold Museum which is nice to visit) or the unique shops in the town square, there’s plenty to see. It’s the heart of Georgia wine country and a perfect spot to soak in some local culture before we move on.

The journey continues to Talking Rock, where we may grab a bite at the Historic Boxcar Grill.
It’s located inside a renovated 1923 railcar and is famous for its smash burgers and blackened chicken wraps.

You may want to swing by the Atlanta Motorsports Park (AMP) in Dawsonville.
Designed by F1 architect Hermann Tilke, this world-class facility features a road course with massive elevation changes that are impressive even just to look at. You may want to ride a fast cart along the track.

We’ll loop back through Dahlonega one more time—perfect for a quick coffee or grabbing a gift—before making the final scenic run back to Helen. We’ll finish the day exactly where we started, ready for a well-deserved dinner and some R&R.

Georgia (U.S. state)
About this region
Georgia is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States, bordered to the north by Tennessee and North Carolina; to the northeast by South Carolina; to the southeast by the Atlantic Ocean; to the south by Florida; and to the west by Alabama. Georgia is the 24th-largest in area and 8th-most populous of the 50 United States. Its 2020 population was 10,711,908, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Atlanta, a "beta(+)" global city, is both the state's capital and its largest city. The Atlanta metropolitan area, with a population of more than 6 million people in 2020, is the 9th most populous metropolitan area in the United States and contains about 57% of Georgia's entire population.Founded in 1732 as the Province of Georgia and becoming a royal colony in 1752, Georgia was the last and southernmost of the original Thirteen Colonies to be established. Named after King George II of Great Britain, the Colony of Georgia covered the area from South Carolina south to Spanish Florida and west to French Louisiana at the Mississippi River. On January 2, 1788, Georgia became the fourth state to ratify the United States Constitution. From 1802 to 1804, western Georgia was split to form the Mississippi Territory, which later was admitted as the U.S. states of Alabama and Mississippi. Georgia declared its secession from the Union on January 19, 1861, and was one of the original seven Confederate States. Following the Civil War, it was the last state to be restored to the Union, on July 15, 1870. In the post-Reconstruction era, Georgia's economy was transformed as a group of prominent politicians, businessmen, and journalists, led by Henry W. Grady, espoused the "New South" philosophy of sectional reconciliation, industrialization, and white supremacy. During the 20th century, several Georgians, most notably Martin Luther King Jr., were prominent leaders during the civil rights movement. Since 1945, Georgia has seen substantial population growth as part of the broader Sun Belt phenomenon. From 2007 to 2008, 14 of Georgia's counties ranked among the nation's 100 fastest-growing.Georgia is defined by a diversity of landscapes, flora, and fauna. The state's northernmost regions include the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the larger Appalachian Mountain system. The Piedmont plateau extends from the foothills of the Blue Ridge south to the Fall Line, an escarpment to the Coastal Plain defining the state's southern region. Georgia's highest point is Brasstown Bald at 4,784 feet (1,458 m) above sea level; the lowest is the Atlantic Ocean. With the exception of some high-altitude areas in the Blue Ridge, the entirety of the state has a humid subtropical climate. Of the states entirely east of the Mississippi River, Georgia is the largest in land area.

Ultimate USA road trip part 05
Michel van Hagen challenged me to follow the Roadtrip of Dr. Randy Olsen as a basis to create the Ultimate USA Road Trip for the MyRoute app RouteXpert Library. I took up that challenge and started in February 2022.

The scientist Dr. Randy Olsen, who became known for using his knowledge of algorithms to find 'Waldo' in the well-known American 'Where's Waldo' book series, has been challenged by Tracy Staedter, from Discovery News, to use the same algorithm to create the perfect Road Trip by creating the US, which will visit almost every state in the US. Alaska and Hawaii are not included in this Road Trip due to their geographical location.

The following three requirements formed the basis of the route: In all 48 countries there must be at least one stop at famous points, monuments, historical sites, national parks, etc. I have added additional interesting points, beautiful tours and routes.

After more than 26 months, the job is finished and, with a lot of support from Nick Carthew, I have created 129 routes that run through the 48 states of the USA and part of Canada. This is the fifth collection that takes you from Cocao Beach in ten days through Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia to Kill Devil Hills in North Carolina.
