Route Summary
Let’s go for a great ride through the Blue Ridge Mountains!
You will get to experience variety of interesting environments - brooks, lakes, waterfalls, dams and scenic roads with lots of curves we all crave.
The star of this show is Route-28 also known as the “Moonshiner-28”. It has a lot to offer, I promise!
Get some breakfast, feed your steed and off you go to ride some beautiful curves.
Have a coffee break on the way and stretch your legs a bit.
Then you get to stop and walk behind the Bridal Veil Waterfall right alongside the road. In a short distance from there you can walk around and behind the magnificent Dry Falls.
Continue to enjoy the curves (some are quite demanding) all the way to your destination with a couple of stops to recharge and refill.
You will also ride by Cheoah and Fontana Dams.
The route is very scenic, enjoyable, curvy and simple to navigate, I give it 4 stars!

RouteXpert Review
Buckle up for an adrenaline-fueled journey through Appalachian history!
Your adventure kicks off on the legendary Moonshiner 28, a high-octane mountain corridor once used by Depression-era bootleggers to outrun the law. Today, this scenic two-lane highway serves up a relentless concentration of curves, dramatic elevation changes, and breathtaking vistas as it carves through the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Prepare for a "misty" encounter at Bridal Veil Falls, where you can stretch your legs and walk behind the cascading water.

Just a stone’s throw away, the mighty 75-foot Dry Falls offers the rare thrill of standing behind a roaring curtain of water while (mostly) staying dry.

As the road narrows against rugged rock walls, the ride gets even tighter and more technical.

You’ll cruise past the monumental Cheoah Dam—a 225-foot engineering marvel.
At the time of its completion, the Cheoah Dam was the tallest overflow dam in the world, standing at 225 feet. It featured some of the most advanced technology of its era, including turbines that were the largest globally and a 150,000-volt transmission line with the highest voltage and longest span for a transmission line—spanning 5,010 feet across the river below the dam.
The dam's design is an example of Classical Revival architecture, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 due to its historical and architectural significance.

As you pass the dam you come to the world-famous Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort.
This is where the infamous Tail of the Dragon starts (or ends).
If you are not tired and are still full of energy, you can try and slain the Dragon, then turn around and come back and do it again the other way to then rejoin the original route.
The Tail of the Dragon is about 11 miles long, and has 318 turns each way.....
It is BEST to do the Dragon during the week, as on the weekends it is CRAZY BUSY!
Early mornings and late afternoons are less busy even during the week. So... plan accordingly!
My personal recommendation is to make it a separate trip.

Cap off your epic day by marveling at the Fontana Dam before pulling into the Fontana Village Resort.
Fontana Dam impounds the Little Tennessee River to form Fontana Lake—a reservoir spreading more than 10,000 acres that offers boating, fishing, and access to remote areas on the southwestern side of Great Smoky Mountains National Park including Hazel Creek and Eagle Creek.
It remains the tallest concrete dam east of the Mississippi River at 480 feet (146 m).

And finally you arrive at the Fontana Village Resort.
Enjoy your stay and fantastic roads in the area!

Whether you’re here for the history or the hairpins, this is one mountain run you’ll never forget.
Adventure is calling—are you ready to chase the moonshine?

Georgia (U.S. state)
About this region
Georgia is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States, bordered to the north by Tennessee and North Carolina; to the northeast by South Carolina; to the southeast by the Atlantic Ocean; to the south by Florida; and to the west by Alabama. Georgia is the 24th-largest in area and 8th-most populous of the 50 United States. Its 2020 population was 10,711,908, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Atlanta, a "beta(+)" global city, is both the state's capital and its largest city. The Atlanta metropolitan area, with a population of more than 6 million people in 2020, is the 9th most populous metropolitan area in the United States and contains about 57% of Georgia's entire population.Founded in 1732 as the Province of Georgia and becoming a royal colony in 1752, Georgia was the last and southernmost of the original Thirteen Colonies to be established. Named after King George II of Great Britain, the Colony of Georgia covered the area from South Carolina south to Spanish Florida and west to French Louisiana at the Mississippi River. On January 2, 1788, Georgia became the fourth state to ratify the United States Constitution. From 1802 to 1804, western Georgia was split to form the Mississippi Territory, which later was admitted as the U.S. states of Alabama and Mississippi. Georgia declared its secession from the Union on January 19, 1861, and was one of the original seven Confederate States. Following the Civil War, it was the last state to be restored to the Union, on July 15, 1870. In the post-Reconstruction era, Georgia's economy was transformed as a group of prominent politicians, businessmen, and journalists, led by Henry W. Grady, espoused the "New South" philosophy of sectional reconciliation, industrialization, and white supremacy. During the 20th century, several Georgians, most notably Martin Luther King Jr., were prominent leaders during the civil rights movement. Since 1945, Georgia has seen substantial population growth as part of the broader Sun Belt phenomenon. From 2007 to 2008, 14 of Georgia's counties ranked among the nation's 100 fastest-growing.Georgia is defined by a diversity of landscapes, flora, and fauna. The state's northernmost regions include the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the larger Appalachian Mountain system. The Piedmont plateau extends from the foothills of the Blue Ridge south to the Fall Line, an escarpment to the Coastal Plain defining the state's southern region. Georgia's highest point is Brasstown Bald at 4,784 feet (1,458 m) above sea level; the lowest is the Atlantic Ocean. With the exception of some high-altitude areas in the Blue Ridge, the entirety of the state has a humid subtropical climate. Of the states entirely east of the Mississippi River, Georgia is the largest in land area.

Ultimate USA road trip part 05
Michel van Hagen challenged me to follow the Roadtrip of Dr. Randy Olsen as a basis to create the Ultimate USA Road Trip for the MyRoute app RouteXpert Library. I took up that challenge and started in February 2022.

The scientist Dr. Randy Olsen, who became known for using his knowledge of algorithms to find 'Waldo' in the well-known American 'Where's Waldo' book series, has been challenged by Tracy Staedter, from Discovery News, to use the same algorithm to create the perfect Road Trip by creating the US, which will visit almost every state in the US. Alaska and Hawaii are not included in this Road Trip due to their geographical location.

The following three requirements formed the basis of the route: In all 48 countries there must be at least one stop at famous points, monuments, historical sites, national parks, etc. I have added additional interesting points, beautiful tours and routes.

After more than 26 months, the job is finished and, with a lot of support from Nick Carthew, I have created 129 routes that run through the 48 states of the USA and part of Canada. This is the fifth collection that takes you from Cocao Beach in ten days through Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia to Kill Devil Hills in North Carolina.
