RouteXpert Review
Day 6 we drive from Flums to Melay, the total ride is 420km and on this route we pass a number of lakes and passes. In the first part of the journey we drive along the Walensee, the Stausee and the first pass is the Sattelegg Pass (RP5). This pass is located in the Alps in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland, between Siebnen and Willerzell. The pass is 1190 meters high and the road has a maximum of 14 percent. On the Sattelegg is a restaurant, a small chapel and a ski lift.
We continue along the Sihlsee (RP7) to the Ibergeregg pass (RP8) at an altitude of 1,406 meters in the Swiss canton of Schwyz. The pass connects the city of Schwyz and the village of Oberiberg.
We continue the journey to Lucerne on the north shore of the Vierwaldstättersee (RP10). The Vierwaldstättersee with its four cantons Uri, Schwyz, Luzern and Nidwalden is the historical and geographical center of Switzerland. The tourist offer is extremely versatile and includes the bustling city life of Lucerne, pampering in luxurious wellness resorts with a fantastic location or simple mountain huts, boat trips on the lake, trips with mountain trains or cable cars to beautiful views and of course mountain hiking. The Vierwaldstättersee has a very whimsical shape. The southernmost part is formed by the fjord-like Urnersee. The majority of the peaks reach a height of around 2000 meters, the Urirotstock almost 3000 meters. Stop occasionally to enjoy the view or to take pictures.
We stop for lunch at Ace Café Luzern (RP17), a "brother" of the original Ace Café London. A meeting point for motorcyclists and lovers of hot rods and fast sports cars. Almost every weekend there is something to do. The food in the restaurant is good.
We continue the road through the Vosges to our B&B in Melay France, because of the great distance we partly take the D roads in France. Less spectacular as the higher passes, but still enjoy.
This route deserves 4 stars, partly due to the beautiful mountain roads and beautiful mountain lakes in Switzerland.
